Here's an update from the NY Times. The author expresses the concerns of Google's partners but also gives a lot of specific information.

If the main value is the patents, and they still have the patents after selling the manufacturing business, why would they have to book a loss?

Neat graphic but the Nokia graphic is misleading. Their 22.1% share of smartphone operating systems? Try zero. They announced a switch to WP7 OS.

And however they define smartphone, it isn't quite the same thing as current Android, RIMM, or iOS devices. Nokia's 20.9% share of "smartphones" is therefore equally bogus.

Nokia sold 16.7 million smartphones last quarter, and 24 million the quarter before-those are Symbian OS. They had around 24% of the smartphone market two quarters ago, and it fell to around 15% last quarter?

I believe that Gartner may have used a snapshot of the 2nd or 3rd calendar quarter for those numbers, since they do not correspond with either Nokia's nor Apple's quarterly numbers so far this year, but seem to be in between them.

Edit: Horace Dedieu's chart: http://www.asymco.com/2011/08/08/the...-phone-brands/
