Since going to Lion this strange thing happens. When I load books to Stanza on my iPad via iTunes the books transfer OK but the titles disappear in the File Transfer Window of Stanza on my iPad/iTunes.
I have other ways to do this (DiskAid and Calibre server) but it bothers me that the Stanza app doesn't seem to work right. I have the lastest iOS but of course the Stanza app is kinda dead. Anyone else have this problem? As far as Lion itself, I have had NO issues. As stateed earlier, Missison Control takes some getting used to. Does not work well with external monitor/TV. If watching NetFlix on a TV and you change to a different desktop the TV image leaves too. So... unless I missed something, if viewing something on a another monitor/tv you can't change to a different desktop on the iMac. |

RE: Boot Camp
I had a Boot Camp partion and TWO others on my iMac under the old system. But under Lion there seems to be a limitation. After installing Lion I wanted to install a new version of Windows on Boot Camp. I kept getting a partition error. The Boot Camp docs say that there can be NO partitions on the startup disk when it is installed. |

I don't want to deviate from initial topic, but I should say I found quite interesting the option of running Parallels with BootCamp.
I read about Boot Camp and was disappointed of the fact that it is for dual boot. But if we have the ability to boot into Snow Leopard, open Parallels and call XP from its native/boot camp partition, that's really nice. I am in the process of installing or using Parallels for PlayOn (there another thread here, from one of the forum admins about cutting Cable TV for good) and so far I've had some success. But PlayOn is really CPU intensive and I got the feeling that combination could boost the performance a bit. All these so wife can watch Young and the Restless ... ![]() Last edited by jocampo; 08-03-2011 at 10:55 AM. |

I only have 8 gig of Ram in my iMac. At this moment I'm running iTunes, Mail, Pages, Calibre, FireFox, Safari, and Filemaker Pro along with a Bible Study Program in Windows XP under Fusion. Activity monitor is reporting 3 gig of free RAM still! |

On my tests, Parallel runs way much faster, at least for PlayOn, which is CPU hungry.
We do use VMware at work, very large scale and in a very complex configuration for MS-SQL boxes, but I believe that for home users, Parallels or VirtualBox (for Linux) are a better choice. Thanks for the link though. I'm not "married" to any product so will take your comments into considerations. Reading this thread has made me think twice for my Mac Mini Lion upgrade. I prefer wait and pay 30 bucks later but be able to fix my streaming issue now. |

Never mind ...
Lion is out of my plans for my Mac Mini, at least for now. It looks like GIMP, one of my favorite and open source programs, it is not ready for Lion yet. I don't want to run it on a virtual machine. |

I haven't been using Stanza on iPad. I had set up iPad Stanza along with a bunch of other reader apps as alternate to Kindle and best place to read technical stuff with lots of graphics. My iPad's been gathering dust and cobwebs on the shelf for a couple months…. But thinking about it. My Snow Leopard problem the other day with trash (trashed files not appearing in trash but apparently getting deleted), rcuampo's and others' Lion problems with trash, your problem with books not showing up in Stanza - could it all be related to Access Control Lists needing a fix? If your book library is in home folder, I wonder what would happen if you tried Stanza on iPad from a copy of library on an external disk set to "ignore file owner" (checkbox in GetInfo on disk icon) and set to everyone rw. That might have different results. Otherwise I've no clue.

And thanks for the discussion of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VMware. I ran Windows from a partition for awhile years ago when I needed it, generally worked fine except for hassle of rebooting to switch. I've not needed any MS OS since then until perhaps now. I didn't know about Parallels, I'll look into it. Penguinaka has a great script for preprocessing books before adding to calibre, and others have other tools that only run in MS environments. Parallels might allow me to use them (I think) with little muss or fuss. I'll look at VMware Fusion too.

Only some Lion users have the problem. For others, that problem doesn't happen. That also seems to apply to prior versions of OSX, at least in Snow Leopard where I had a problem.

1. It took a long time to download and then install using a 6/5 MB/sec cable connection. So, do it when you have some time. 2. After downloading Safari would not work. I did the limited things I know how to do when an application won't respond. that didn't work. I went to the Apple help site, the things suggested I had already done. I called the Apple help line and spoke to three representatives over two days. the first person had me try a number of things and then suggested re-downloading Lion. I did but Safari still wouldn't work (I was able to use Firefox, which worked fine throughout the process). The third representative, at a higher level of help, was able to work me through the process and get Safari working (using it right now). So, my take away advice is to have some time when you do the download and, perhaps, wait a bit longer for some bug fixes unless you have to upgrade right now. This is tempered by forewarning you that my level of expertise is probably quite a few degrees below the level of most participating here. Last edited by JimKal; 08-05-2011 at 02:57 PM. |

@JimCal, thanks, that's helpful. I'd pretty much decided to wait awhile but your post makes me feel better about waiting.

Wifi dropping in Lion
OK... Here's a possible BIG issue...
I hadn't related my issue to my new Lion install but my wifi kept dropping off the local net. I am visiting a relative and I assumed the issue was related to their wireless setup. (Though no one else loses their connection.) When reading this post this morning it occurred to me that the drops started after I installed Lion. I did a Google search and check this out: Lion dropping Wifi . . |

Hmm ...
I won't upgrade the Mac Mini, but my 2011 Mac air has not experienced any wifi issues or problems. |
