![]() I don't keep pictures or music. I keep my pictures on the cloud, using Web Albums app for IPad. My music is being keep on an external server and shared via Samba, where iTunes also connects. That basically leaves my iPad for light reading and browsing Internet. So 16GB is more than enough for me. If you are planning to keep music, videos or pictures locally, I do not recommend the 16GB model. Last edited by jocampo; 08-12-2011 at 12:05 AM. Reason: Fixing a typo |

I love Zinio, I have not experienced crashes or major issues. I read the Magazine and once done, I delete it. Barely uses space on my 16GB iPad. The issue when backing up is when an option is not turned off, is documented. Deleting old Magazine issues also help. By the way, mine is wifi only. I can tether to my Android phone and maximize my Tmobile 4G plan. I don't justify the iPad 3G plan if my cellphone has a data plan already, but that's just me. Go with 32g if you can. You would be amazed how fast 16 fills up. The exception if you are a cloud ninja type. Just how techie is your sister? If she is not very techie, then there is no use talking about the cloud, although maybe iCloud will make things very intuitive.

Will she carry the iPad on her trips, and does she work on international flights? Because if she does, she'll need to have all her data with her. 3G is too expensive an option to use when in a foreign country, except for emergencies, and wifi is not always available. In that case I'd say she may need a lot of storage.

I have the 32GB version which I find is ample. I think i'd have been a little pushed with the 16GB due to wanting to take multiple videos with me on longer trips. Although, i'd probably have just increased the compression to save space. Music and photos don't really take up that much room unless you're importing raw/lossless or have a huge music library (be selective
![]() If money is really tight, 16GB is fine, but if you can stretch for the 32GB I think it's worth it. 64GB seemed overly expensive for just the extra 32GB. When making my choice I thought i'd just about manage with 16GB so bought the 32 to leave a bit of growing room ![]() Last edited by JoeD; 08-23-2011 at 06:03 PM. |

The ipad3 is just a rumor at this point - which is a fairly standard part of the Apple life cycle. If you wait for an ipad3 you'll be starting to hear rumors of an ipad4.....and so on. Not saying it's a bad idea to wait (my wife and I are waiting for the iphone5!), just that there will always be an upgraded device on the horizon.

BUT, on the iphone 5, I just read online that Apple is going to start pre-orders on Sept. 30 and start delivery Oct. 7. Knowing how Apple is so tight lipped, I think it's likely, but I wouldn't put money on it. ![]() Carol Edited to add the link: http://9to5mac.com/2011/08/16/apple-...-launch-oct-7/ Last edited by sadievan; 08-23-2011 at 08:36 PM. |

This exactly. It's roughly 8 months until the release of the iPad 3. It really depends on whether you're willing to wait or not. There was a limited-time Viz manga sale for the iPad (no iPhone/iPod Touch version of the app at the time) and that's pretty much the only reason I bought an iPad. If not for that, I would've never bought one. It's a nice enough device but I could easily live without one. At the very least, I probably would have waited for a version with higher pixel density to get one.

Carol,
Again the thing to consider is how you will use the device. I have an iPad1/WiFi/16GB, While I have a number of apps, I use it mostly for reading (multiple reading apps) web surfing, email, streaming video and streaming radio. I have over 10GB left. But I don't store video or audio files. Amazon, my main e-book source, lets you archive books when you are through with them so you can build your library and use Amazon for storage, That said, I have approximately 60 books in active use. While the general rule to buy as much memory as you can afford is sound, overbuying is a waste of resources that could be put to other use. Decisions, decisions! |
