If my 500 wasn't a few months' old, I'd probably be saving for a 505. Right now, I'm satisfied and am reading more than I had before. A few years of seminary had pretty much broken me of reading at all.

But I don't see the 505 as *that* much of an improvement, such that I'd be looking to replace my 500 any time soon. I'd definitely wait for another couple generations of devices and then diligently compare the offerings from various manufacturers before buying.

You're lucky that you get an anniversary present. At my house, my wife is the only one who gets one.

I'm not planning to order one, just yet, if ever. I have had the 500 for going on 10+ months (Nov 2006) and paid the original price at Boarders. I am glad that the Sony Reader line has been extended into the future and that they have introduced a new model with more features (and a better screen) at a lower price. This is called progress and innovation.

Since I do not use all of the current internal memory, the additional optional memory extensions have no value for me. I have the drivers on the PC so file transfer is a breeze for me.

The question for me and a possible future purchase is how much impact Digital Editions will have for me and if Sony will update the firmware of the 500 to display it. If DE becomes a feature that I must have and they do not update the 500's firmware then it is likely that I will purchase a 505.

Does the "Jump to letter span" work through more than one level? That is, if you have a few hundred books and choose the A-C span (or whatever) does it then offer you 10 new spans? Aa-AF, Ag-BA, etc.? Or does it just cut off the first level of pain?

'fraid not, they are just one level of pain less.
Still a bit nicer. I have a pic of that screen over in the thread I made about the new reader.

While I own an Iliad as well as a PRS-500, I went ahead and ordered the 505.

I've always loved the e-reader format, and have supported it all the way back in the day of the Rocket e-book (B&W and Color). I also have ebooks on all my palm and pocket PC phones, and when they come up with a reader for the iPhone I'll get that too!

Just my humble way of supporting the hardware and ebooks in general. I got silver, BTW...

Cheers!

VERY tempting but...my 500 works. So, I cannot justify buying (spending $400+ including delivery and taxes) a new one. I am not even going to mention it to my wife because she will want to buy one for me and then I would feel guilty.
