The second through the sixth books of Anthony Powell's Dance to the Music of Time sequence are only $3.99. I already have the first as a freebie. I own the entire series in pbook but I'm tempted. I've always meant to reread it and having it on my ereaders would make it more likely to happen.

There were numerous others. I did not make a list.

I know it is likely a mistake, but I have not noticed that before and was surprised there was so many, so I posted to find out if this is common. If it is off by a factor of 1000, it seems kind off sloppy. It looks like the web page automatically generates a "slow download" warning. Why isn't there a sanity check that the file would not even fit on a Kindle? Why isn't the file size listing generated automatically from the actual file?

If I call Amazon about it, will the person on the other end of the line have any idea what I am talking about?

I doubt it. I just downloaded the sample of the first one and it is 272 locations, so at 10% the total would be 2720, an average-size book for the number of pages listed. I wouldn't worry about it. Amazon will give you a refund if you ask for it within 1 week if there is a problem.

Interestingly, B&N has dropped all the Soho Press books from this sale to $3.19.

Look down this page

Hmmm - it may be worthwhile to hold off buying anything else until the last day to see what else they do.

Edit: Amazon is dropping the price on some of these to $3.79 and $3.19.

SF Classic - The Day of the Triffids by
John Wyndham $1.99

Quote:
Product Description
Huge plants called “triffids” have come to life, uprooting themselves and roaming the world, viciously attacking humans who have been blinded by a bizarre green deluge that appeared to be a meteor shower -- hell on earth is worse than anyone ever imagined in John Wyndham’s terrifying novel The Day of the Triffids. Whether it is called science fiction, speculative fiction or simply fantasy, Wyndham’s novel is an unforgettable vision of a post-apocalyptic world, where a handful of people have the means
It's not 48 pages, as listed, but 256 paperback pages.

So far only at Amazon for this price.

I grabbed a sample of a few of the big ones - they are taking long enough to show up on the iPad that I believe the sizes are correct. One is full of high res pics, it looks like, and is fairly obviously topaz format. I have no doubt that the full book is over 5GB in size.

Oh weird. The one I got didn't have any pictures but the font looked weird - almost like an OCR.

Edit: I just got Cold Pursuit

Listed like this:

File Size: 2578449 KB
Print Length: 384 pages

It has 3360 locations, no pictures and downloaded to my iPod in the normal amount of time. Nothing weird about it.

Yes, some of them. I haven't seen any reduced to $3.19 yet either.

The Cater Street Hangman: A Charlotte and Thomas Pitt Novel (Book One) $3.99 everywhere except Sony, where it is $3.79.

Quote:
Product Description
The first book in Perry’s bestselling Victorian crime series, bringing together Inspector Thomas Pitt and Charlotte Ellison

Panic and fear strike the Ellison household when one of their own falls prey to the Cater Street murderer. While Mrs. Ellison and her three daughters are out, their maid becomes the third victim of a killer who strangles young women with cheese wire, leaving their swollen-faced bodies on the dark streets of this genteel neighborhood. Inspector Pitt, assigned to the case, must break through the walls of upper-class society to get at the truth. His in-depth investigation gradually peels away the proper veneer of the elite world, exposing secrets and desires until suspicion becomes more frightening than truth. Outspoken Charlotte Ellison, struggling to remain within the confining boundaries of Victorian manners, has no trouble expressing herself to the irritating policeman. As their relationship shifts from antagonistic sparring to a romantic connection, the socially inappropriate pair must solve the mystery before the hangman strikes again.

Rich with authentic period details, The Cater Street Hangman hooks readers from the moment the sparks first fly between Charlotte and Thomas.
Amazon

B&N

Kobo

Sony

Sony has some of the books for $3.79 but I haven't found them in a list anywhere, so you will have to just search on each book you are interested in.

BooksOnBoard has the Soho Press books for $3.77 in Epub:

BOB

Others will have to just be searched on by title.
