I got my 505 in 2008 and haven't turned back. EBooks generally cost less, a factor for a retiree to consider. And (for me the most important consideration) take less room. Between my laptop and three readers, I have approx 4500 eBooks much easier to take with me (all of them) on out travels, we spend most of our time traveling around in our motorhome.
If I can't get the book in eBook format, I'll just wait until it comes out in digital format; Robert Jordan and J K Rowling case in point. |

Plus ttancat some authors who would not normally be able to publish their works will self publish their works with stores such as amazon and barns and nobels so you, as a reader, get to read authors that you would not normally come across in printed form. Also book stores push the most expsnive novels, this in printed form you wind up being able to purchase the books that are not pushed.

Let people test them out and decide what they like. Load some popular books onto the device and let users take it for a spin. Despite prices coming down, I still think of an e-reader as a ‘luxury item.’ Loaning out e-readers follows the library tradition of making materials accessible to everyone. e-readers can provide a most easy and relavent information.

I got my first ereader for my birthday in January 2010. Since then, I only buy a physical book if I can't get it on my Kindle. In addition, since I can shop from home and have the book delivered in 60 seconds, I have begun to read a lot more.

My husband, having recently been given a Kindle on my account, is enjoying having so many books available that I had already bought. When I send books to his Kindle, I also send them to his laptop and he is thrilled that he can read a book on either device and synchronise them. So this morning he went off on a journey and knows that while he is travelling he'll be able to continue reading on his Kindle a book he'd started on the laptop.
I know it's simple and once we have readers we take this sort of thing for granted, but it is a good feature that I didn't even think about as a reason for buyinh a reader. |

Welcome blueblau, I liked my hardcopy and was very hesitant of ereaders. There were 3 in the family and my daughter was prodding, anyhow she bought me a Kindle. guess what I love it. Each type has its pros and cons I suppose, and I shall still read hardcopy, but I am reading more now.

I have been assimilated.
I probably wouldn't have bought one, but my company had a contest and I won it. As with ptofimpact, I love it. |

Hi guys,
thanks again for sharing opinions. It's been around 5 days since I bought my e-reader (new nook) and I love it! I love the idea of carrying it in my even small cross body bags, reading it when waiting for subway, in the subway. I'm pretty sure it would be lovely during my 13 hour flight to home! so far no complaints. I didn't buy any paperback or hardcover book throughout this time but I realize every once in a while I might just buy some reference books. So to anyone out there who is wondering whether they might really adjust to the e-readers, based on my personal experience I can say yes you will adapt and love it! |

I echo a lot of the sentiments expressed here. I thought it would be a difficult transition but I took to my Kindle like a fish to water. Since receiving my K2 in Feb 2009, I have not read nor purchased another DTB since and I havent' looked back. I now have a K3 and for me the number 1 reason for the ereader is the availability of having so much at my fingertips. I never know what I am in the mood for, but because I have about 1500 books of various genres loaded, I can read whatever I am up for without having to carry three or four different books.
Good Luck with your Nook and welcome to e-reading. |
