@charleski - while the scenario you describe of badly formatted tags from user error causing merge issues is undoubtedly correct, that is most definitely not the problem I have had. As I said above, I now save (when I remember) the document right before doing the merge. If the merge goes wrong, I close and reopen Sigil, reopen the document and perform the merge straight away, and it will work. So it is not related to the document content. I have noted that I must restart Sigil itself in this situation. If I merely close the document, reopen it and perform the merge again, the exact same merge failure will take place, where the source file content is lost. This will happen repeatedly until I close Sigil down and reopen it. So something has gotten very ill inside Sigil itself at that point.

If you think that's bad, try APL... It was the first language I learnt and was fantastic for providing a true ability to make unreadable programs. At that time, I was using an IBM-2741 terminal (based on a Selectric typewriter) with the keys all being UPPERCASE unshifted, with each key then having a greek symbol on it as well.

These symbols could be used either with two arguments (dyadic) or one (monadic). Addition operators could be made by overtyping two greek symbols...

For anyone that hasn't already heard I've taken over as the maintainer of Sigil. Please see this post on the Sigil development blog for my plans for Sigil's future.

This sounds like very good news indeed! I'd hate to see a great coding project wither away...

I wish you the best in getting Sigil to bigger and better acceptance as THE ePub editor!

Calibre doesn't do editing. I think you have misunderstood the purposes of these two applications. Sigil is a WYSIWYG EPUB editor. calibre is a management application with automated conversation functionality.

Would you care to share with us some of these other tools, so we can try them out and see for ourselves.
