I love dragons and, IMHO, Naomi Novik has a wonderful and fresh take on them. I also agree with the mention of the Earthsea dragons.

I love this series as well, and I agree that White Dragon was better than the preceding books. My favorite was All The Weyrs of Pern. I also enjoyed the Harper Hall Trilogy.

Not big on dragons. I thought what Lewis did in Voyage of the Dawn Treader where the bad boy was temporarily turned into a dragon, and then had a difficult time trying to communicate with his friends to tell them he was the dragon they were seeing, followed by how he was turned back into a boy (and better for it) was pretty interesting. But that was of course a children's book. I want no part of dragon's in adult books. At least you'd have to come with something incredibly thought provoking to make me read it.
