Oooooh, well done! I nearly mentioned both of them earlier, but didn't think anyone would know them. Also Christopher Brookmyre, who is in a very similar vein to Bateman.

Thanks for that. I loved his Topper, and thought the humor to be amazingly contemporary in character even though it was written in 1926. I'll have to check The Night Life of the Gods out as well.

+1 for that also.

And +1 for whoever recommended Douglas Adams. His Hitchhiker series is a hilarious mash up of science, philosophy, and twisted humor.

Although not a pure comedy, The Milagro Beanfield War has lots of funny moments and is a fantastic read.

I second on Douglas Adams and T. Pratchett.

I've read the whole Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Actually, I read the Ultimate Hitchihiker's yada yada yada). From the latter, only Mort; which is about an apprentice of Death.

Really enjoyed both, though I enjoyed only the first from Douglas stories (The Hitchhiker's guide) more than the rest... (Restaurant at the End of the Universe, So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, etc).

M*A*S*H by Richard Hooker. Very far from chick-lit...

The works of Helen Rowland on Project Gutenberg. Still accurate today...

I love Jonathan Tropper...not all comedy but really good stories. I especially liked 'The Book of Joe' and 'This is Where I Leave You.' You can find him in fiction.

If you have an account at your local library and they have an emedia section, you might be able to search by genre there

my library only recently started to feature ebooks, they have new sections like top 100 ebooks, etc; before it was mostly audio books being featured, (overdrives headquarters is nearby but those work too, nothing like a funny book by Dave Barry being read by Arte Johnson or the late John Ritter... and on the advanced search you can always narrow your search result to whats available....

if you find an author you like you can use tools like:

Map of literature, Gnod's suggestions
http://www.gnooks.com/

Similar Authors
http://www.similarauthors.com/

to find similar authors
