An e-ink screen. I so want to like e-ink so I can justify buying a new reader but the slow page turns & refresh flash absolutely drive me batty.

Oh, also slow page turns

1. proprietary formats.
2. lack of speed (try a pandigital novel e-ink sometime ...)
3. lack of removable storage
4. heft. or lack thereof.

books are heavy. i think an ereader should have a little heft to it also. Kobo with a decent cover is pretty good - but my nook (wifi) with a silicone skin is perfect. feels just about like an average trade paperback to my hand.

my mother in law's k3 out of the case is too light. feels fragile. my wife's kobo seems a little light with only the silicone skin, or on it's own.

What slow page turns... try timing a paper page turn and a button press turn... from several years of usage, there is little difference provided the ebook is reasonably formatted...

If you read both pages of a pbook and then turn the page then it would probably be about the same.

When I read a pbook, as I'm reading the left hand page I'm separating the right hand page to get ready to turn it. Then as I'm reading the last line of the right hand page I'm already starting to turn it and by the time my eyes are back up to the top left hand corner it's already flipped. For me, it's definitely faster than waiting for an e-ink refresh (or the page turns some LCDs have where it's side to side as if it's a pbook page).

It's only a tiny thing but that little interruption gets more and more annoying to me the longer I read rather than getting used to it.

Exactly the same on an e-ink... you just have to know when to push the page button.

Still doesn't eliminate the refresh flash which I find even more annoying than the wait.

Well from you post above, since you mentioned the "slow page turns" twice .. that seemed to be more the issue. Yes the way e-ink works means the screen must be cleared before new pixels are rendered. It is sometimes noticeable, but really not that big a deal for most.

Hardly.
I cut my metaphorical tech teeth on a Bowmar brain.
I've been buying ebook devices since the Palm Pilot days.

I just happen to be a stickler for ergonomics and immersion.
Conversely, I find it perverse to see so much wasted effort trying to turn genuine digital devices and files into imitation paper and in the process degrade a naturally immersive experience.

Reminds me of the early days of TV when some shows were literally video broadcasts of radio shows and single-camera fixed-focus theater plays.
It's early in the ebook game and a lot of people still don't understand that ebooks are not pbooks minus paper.

Eventualy it'll sink in.

Ah, I added it the second time 'cause I was thinking that since I'd excluded e-ink as a class then my top answer for devices that I'd currently consider buying would be slow page turns.

The feature I'd really love to see is a word-per-minute settable auto-scroll. I use ubook on my PDA and it has that feature and I love it.

I would really love to buy the new Kobo Touch (love touchscreens). Once my son gets his kindle fixed I'll have to borrow it again and see if I can get used to the flash.

An Apple logo, but that's not specific to ereaders.

Same here, I refuse to buy paper books because I can't stand fingerprints on my pages!
