Of course now that I'm trying to get it to crash it absolutely refuses to do so!
I like Opera because when you go to a page, it will give you a box so you can zoom in on any part of your webpage. This is what I always do with any browser on the PE when I open the page - I always have to zoom in somewhere and Opera makes it simple and percise.

You can also use your fingers to access most parts of the opera browser because the buttons are so big.

The only downside to Opera is that the colors are way off. Everyone has blue skin. Price to pay for such a useful browser. When I go back to the stock browser, it seems like it's missing all these nifty features that Opera has, but opera does crash when I try to post to mobileread so I don't use it for this forum which is sad.

Just trying to post something for the sake of it and see if I can crash it. Don't see it happening. By the way who knows how to force a new line here.
Found: enter space and then hit a button to the right of lower case l.
P.S. PE + stock browser.
Looks like "edit" works also.

Report: No crashes using stock browser since I turned off javascript, except that very first posting. I think this fix has solved my problem!

Thank you again, Gunner!

Can someone tell me how to turn off Javascript? Because I am about to give up on the EE as anything but a reader and note taker, and I wonder if I will even be able to keep it connected to the internet long enough to download another reader or two. Books I can always load from a USB stick, I guess (though maybe they don't work the same as pdfs). Like Amy (I wonder what she did in the end?), I just couldn't keep connected with either the Entourage browser or Dolphin. I don't mean occasionally - I mean pretty much every time I clicked on a link. Dolphin would work for a bit, then just start crashing.

Press Menu, select Settings, uncheck Enable Javascript. Be forewarned some sites links will not work with single click, but will require a long press a select open.

You can always download to your PC and use ES File Explorer to either copy them over to your EE or install them, if they are apps.

Turning off javascript appears to stop the browser crashing even though it does drop some 'functionally' of some web sites, this you may, or may not, find acceptable.

In my case I use ES File Explorer to transfer anything I want from our FTP server, no matter if I'm out and about or not. Yes, I know everyone doesn't have an FTP server they can call on, I'm just illustrating the versatility of the EE.

Is there a way to find out the version of javascript installed?
Definitely unselecting javascript stops all browsers (have to unselect in each browsers' settings though) from crashing on my ermine-rooted-EE. Reselecting it and the browsers will start to crash.

No easy way that I know of and since the javascript engine has nothing to do with java the programming language, knowing the version isn't going to help very much.

I think the problem is that the javascript engine tries to call APIs that we don't have on the EE and PE and when it gets no reply it exits in a way that crashes the browser.

Okay, can we determine which APIs it is trying to call? I have alogcat installed on my rooted-ermine EE; incidentally, I have a second EE not-rooted running Dingo 1.11.

I assume you would need a debug version of the browser to give that information, just as you do on a PC.

As you can see, the internals of programming are not my 'thing' - I employ a programmer for that We also have a program that can go in the firefox program dir that writes a log of every call that the main program makes. I don't know enough about android to know if there is anything like that available, sorry.

my browser has been remarkably stable running on the beta ermine in the Pocket Edge, but one way I can reliably cause the crash is to click the book to put the display either into the reader as epub or as pdf (doesn't matter which) This stops it every time.

Could there be some sort of format-transform apk that I'm missing? I'm thinking that possibly there was no equivalent lib for ermine when they released the beta; can anyone else do this reliably using the 0.9 ermine release? (I am hesitant to install any further O/S or firmware updates as the device is otherwise working so well now, I don't want to chance another re-install of everything

My browser on the PE works fine with the send-to-eink feature. No idea why yours would crash there.
