Elfn, I had the same problem as you. I gave up trying to get Calibre to do this. I solved it by brute force. After updating the metadata, I change the title in the "edit Metadata' to the "Series xx Title" and copy it to the Title sort as well.
Make sure that you reconvert it to your reader format to set the new title, but then it will save to disk and when copying to your device will also have the correct title in your reader. You will have to change the save to disk template to remove the series data or else your title will wind up with double series and series no. in the save to disk title (won't affect title in reader as it will still have only a single series reference). It appears that the metadata DOES NOT transfer the series data into the title of the conversion. All of the Info is there in the conversion, but I don't have the smarts to make it handle the title the way we both want it to. gros'land |

This may not be what you want, but for the x50 line of Sony devices I use the following metadata plugboard. Format: device_db Device: PRS505 Source Template: {author_sort} {series:| - | } {series_index:05.2f} Destination field: authors Source Template: {author_sort} {series:| - | } {series_index:05.2f}{title} Destination field: title_sort This will cause the series to display in the Author line as seen in the attached image. |

I've since bought a PRS-700 and am going to try your plugboard. Wish me luck! Nori

Yeah, more like no luck. I cannot get the books to the Sony with anything but the plain jane title and author. I have to have something set wrong somewhere, I just have no clue what that might be.

When you open the book on the device in the calibre ebook viewer and press info is it the Plain Jane title? If so there maybe your device setting for the plug board is not right? Try any device.

I think the PRS-700 doesn't use the same fields for display. I've got it figured out now. I left the Title field alone and show the first two letters of the author's last name, first two letters of the first name, name of the series and index followed by author-sort in replacement of the author field and I've got what I need.
