I'm with you there, besides I'm kind of anal about my electronics and glue wouldn't cut it for me.

After you find the broken wire -- which may be a task in itself -- and assuming it isn't more than one broken so you have to guess which end goes with which. If it's a wire that's come loose from the speaker assembly in the hinge rather than breaking in the middle of the wire, that's going to be even more fun. And I'm pretty sure it's going to take more than a little glue to put the hinge back together after you disassemble it with a knife, unless you want it to be stuck in the open-book position forever.

I suspect all the wiring will be very similar to that in a notebook or netbook - that is have plugs on the ends of some sort. I am also assuming most of the 'works' is on the e-ink side with the LCD side being very similar to a netbook screen with camera plus the added buttons and touch circuits.

If that is in fact the case it should be quite simple to repair, just as I've replaced the fractured board to screen cable on my notebook - about a half hour job including the fact I didn't know how it came apart.

It should be possible for you to get a quote for repairs from some independent repair shop.

Tried some PDFs on the eeenote. After getting used to it, I have to say it is not too bad. It accepted all PDFs without a problem and turning pages are fast.

The fonts are a bit more blurry than on the Edge and of course smaller, but readability is not that bad. I don't like to read PDFs on the Edge because the fonts are usually not bold enough for me.
Zooming in on the eeenote will give better readability, but it will not re-size and reflow the PDF. A part of the screen will be outside the visible area and needs to be dragged into the visible area to view it.
On the eeenote one big advantage is that when you zoom in on the PDF dragging is pretty fast and that makes it a more comfortable alternative than on the edge.

Annotating works good, only a similar problem as with the edge. You can zoom in and annotate, but the annotation will only be visible on that zoom level later.

Landscape mode on the eeenote is disappointing, it doesn't reflow the PDF so it is basically the same view as portrait and the only option you have is to zoom in.

Cheyennedonna, weren't you the one beta testing the Google Chrome machine? How is that one working out for you?

That is really interesting. I guess the software fix for this is more complex than we thought.

So how does this work for, say, signing a document? I'm assuming if you don't zoom at all, you can sign (although your signature might end up being large in comparison to the rest of the document), and then you can save a "snapshot" (graphics file) of the document for printing/emailing etc.

If you zoom in and annotate (or sign a document), and then later print/save/email the document via the snapshot tool, can you see all the annotations you've made at any zoom level? Or is snapshot more like "screen shot"?

I gather from other threads in the other forum that the annotations are saved in a separate file, and this "merge annotations" tool someone has created will become useful for this. But, if you wanted to sign a document on your Eee Note right now, how well would that work?

It seems that this problem appears because they (like the PE) are keeping the annotations separate instead of using the standard PDF annotation capability and storing the annotations in the pdf as layers.

I really like the Cr-48, it is lightweight and quick. Using cloud apps works for me; that allows me access from a school computer if I forgot to print. There's a lot more to like too; instant boot, endless battery (even under heavy use it lasts all day), matte screen (giving me readability outdoors), no constant scans, no asking for permission to install or update. The list goes on.

Cool! Something to watch for public release... In terms of it being a full-on Windows replacement, I wonder what kind of driver support it'll have.

I doubt it will ever be a full Windows replacement, although many have installed Ubuntu, and a couple of owners Win 7, as dual boots. As for driver support, you just plug in and usually it works. My thumb drives, external video cam, mouse, and external keyboard (although keyboard is really unneeded) all work. An external monitor mirrors if plugged in while on, offers dual view if plugged in before boot up. The beauty of it it's portability, built in 3G and still to come GPS. I have taken it on a couple of long drives to work on while my husband drives and usually bring it to school if I needed more than my (now dead) edge.

I threw in the towel w/ my EE last Staurday. Called Amazon and even though it was 90 days past their return policy deadline they agreed to take it back for a relatively modest restocking fee. $500+ was way too much for me to spend on a product w/o solid support and/or future.

I'm opting for the MOTOROLA XOOM from COSTCO. You can't beat their 'no questions asked' return policy. If that doesn't work out I'll consider the ASUS Eee PC T101MT.

This forum's been really good. Too bad Entourage appears to be failing - I think they were onto something but alas...! <:-(
