I'm very intrigued by the potential hackability of this device, but I've never done it on any other device, so I'd be poking around in the dark. Usually when I've hacked devices, it's after someone else has done it, and posted instructions. As I understand it, the first step is to be able to get back to the original OS, which I believe someone said isn't yet possible that anyone is aware of.

I allready tested the hackablilty of the eDGe and it works like charm
The only problem, I need some help to recompile some libraries e.t.c.
And no one responded or offered any help in this thread http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/...roid-guru-here

It's really strange, 'cos I thinked that eDGe will be popular in tech-students, computer-geek auditories (peoples familiar with linux and hi-tech lovers), but seems that I didn't guess. Right now I can't understand who use EE (typical age, and occupation).

I think the issue for being popular with tech-students is that it's not that well known. I'd never heard of the edge until I went seriously looking into e-readers. I think of the eDGe can gain some traction, and starts being heralded as a fairly hackable device, more people will be interested.

If I end up getting an eDGe, I'd be willing to help out on the hacking stuff, but as it stands I don't have one.

The ratings of the edge are unfair because they are comparing them to things in a different class....Yes, its heavier than an ereader. It doesnt last as long as an e-reader. However, e-readers dont have ipads connected to them and ipads will kill your eyes if you use them for an e-reader, so the comparisons are not exactly fair. The edge can do more and its in a nitch market.

I wish it was more hackable though....using a 'true' linux, like Ubuntu/Mint now that they are getting Multi-touch in my opinion would be 1000x times better than using Android. You could use a scaled down version of Linux like Puppy or Peppermint OS.

Maybe in the future?

Check out the Development forum. One member, robot, has info and tips for installing the Debian distro. There are all kinds of tips on how to hack the eDGe in that forum.
