+1, its a must sometimes

Why not use the swap button a little different? click = swap between journal and reader, click and hold = rotate screen?

This feature is way overdue. I have been waiting for this feature since I bought the device. While I love everything that my eDGe can do, I really bought it to read PDFs.

Ok, I just asked a question to CS and one of them was in reference to the landscape mode. Their response was that it rotates too slowly and they don’t think it would be acceptable. This got me to thinking that they are probably trying to make the screen rotate automatically whenever you rotate the device 90 degrees. I can’t figure any other reason speed would matter, unless it takes like a whole minute or something.

I also have a Kindle, and on the Kindle, you have to manually select landscape mode (which means you have 4 choices: keyboard on the left and screen on the right, keyboard on the right and screen on the left, keyboard at the top and screen at the bottom (basically upside down), and keyboard at the bottom and screen at the top (normal viewing mode)). It doesn’t rotate the screen whenever you rotate the device. Now I have seen an iPad where the screen rotates as you rotate the device, and personally, I don’t like that. I want to be in control. Who knows. I might want to view a text sideways one day.

So I was thinking that maybe, if they stop trying to make it rotate automatically (assuming this is what they’re doing) and give us a switch or setting where we can tell it to rotate and in which aspect, then we can get landscape mode more quickly. If it takes a few seconds to rotate when I select landscape mode, it doesn’t really matter to me. I can only see it mattering if they’re trying to make it happen as I rotate the device.

Does anyone else have a preference to how the landscape mode works? What do y’all think?

I don't think they are referring to automatic rotation since the EE doesn't officially have an accelerometer (although robot found that it does have one). However, I can't imagine what they mean by the speed of rotation being slow. Is not like you are going to be rotating the eink all the time. Besides I would rather have slow rotation that no rotation at all.

Yeah, I was just assuming that's what they were talking about, and we all know what happens when you assume.

+1 for landscape mode. So far to get something like this working I've had to use third party applications that work poorly and only on the LCD.

Throwing in my +1

I'm now using my machine in landscape a lot, in "laptop" position. Instead of a keyboard, I use the journal in landscape for notes etc. (Doesn't matter much that the icons are on the sides of my display, instead of top/bottom. And I use a blank background so that lines aren't an issue.) If I could have a pdf open this way, too, it would be amazing.

Add me for a +1 as well. Landscape on the reader would come in very handy.

+1

The lack of landscape view is the only missing feature that prevents me from recommending the eDGe without reservations.
