I agree, interacting with the LCD screen is a bit tricky. Particularly when trying to scroll. Sliding the notification bar down to the bottom of the screen is almost impossible with my finger. I think there are two reasons for this.
First, the eDGe uses a resistive touchscreen rather than a capacitive screen. The resistive screens just aren't as accurate as the capacitive screens. They also require you to apply greater pressure to register. There's a reason why Apple uses capacitive screens and it's not to save money. I'm sure enTourage's reason for using the resistive screen was to keep the price from going over $500. Second, unlike the Apple products that use a glass screen, the eDGe has a plastic screen with some sort of anti-glare coating. I find that my fingers don't slide very well over the screen. Rather, I get a slide-stick-slide-stick kind of thing. This really messes up the scrolling action and whenever my finger sticks it registers as a button press. I'm considering getting a screen protector for the LCD side in the hope that it would make the surface a bit more "slick". The NuShield DayVue (http://www.nushield.com) looks promising (you can order it in custom sizes - not sure about pricing). Has anyone else added a screen protector to their eDGe? Did it improve your touch experience? |

Ok. More practice reveals using the stylus and FIRM CONTINUOUS PRESSURE works better to avoid annoying inadvertant page openings and having the screen jumping all over the place. Not great but MUCH better

I was finally able to calibrate my eDGe so I'm able to use my finger and not just the tip or the stylus.. ('m too used to my G1)
I calibrated it with my finger as if I was using the eDGe normally which meant pressing the points pretty quick at a normal pressure. (I was always using the stylus to calibrate and would press pretty carefully. Which didn't work) End result with my finger was a REALLY accurate touch screen. I can even use the keyboard rather quickly and no longer have to backspace ![]() |

Mine is doing that too...not as bad, but it is happening. I had also calibrated with my finger, but it is still doing it.

Up.
We are all acting like the problem is not terribly serious. The lcd touchscreen is simply not reliable and we cannot use it for writing or surfing the net without continuosly correcting it's glitches. this is not android or finger problem, the screen shows the glitches also when we use the pen, as someone posted in video. i want to know from the engineers if this is a hardware issue, if it is i just wasted my money in this gadget. |

I don't seem to be having a serious accuracy problem since doing the previous software update. I occasionally notice the onscreen keyboard registers the key I hit -- I hear the click and see the key flash onscreen -- but the character doesn't appear in the typed input. Something randomly drops letters.
I play FlightFrenzy on the LCD screen with the Pen and the input is perfect. Last edited by kenjennings; 05-10-2010 at 02:15 PM. |

I made LCD touchscreen test. And seems that's hardware problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GFAdnhLg2I As you can see, touchscreen was calibrated perfectly, but there's some spots, wich activete touchscreen in different spots which lead to draw a line instead of an line on LCD screen. |

If you in hurry just watch this 5sec moment, that's what I talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GFAdnhLg2I#t=04m21s
I think that eDGe users should repeat this test on their hardware, if everybody get errors in the same area -- this is hardware design problem. |

More extensive than mine but same kind of results. Very annoying at times.

I suspect that there's 3 possible reason for this:
1. MAYBE low quallity touchscreen layer (don't think that's possible, since seems that eDGe use quallity hardware) 2. POSSIBLE bad connection of lcd and touchscreen to cover on the edges of screen. 3. SUSPECT that since the LCD part is really slim, there's some areas where LCD located to close to an other hardware and this can makes an interferension when you press on touchsreen. We need more test or some explenation from eDGe tech support to find real reason. |

So is there at least anyone who doesn't have this problem with LCD screen?

I have zero problems with the LCD screen. It works great once you learn to use it properly. In fact, I bought a keyboard for this thing and I normally don't feel the need to take it out.

I wish I could say that I didn't have any issues, but alas. I will say that it in the annoying range rather than making the eDGe unusable. In fact, I now don't fire up my desktop very often.
I've noticed that my eDGe misclicks down most often. It can be as much as a third of the screen down. Misclicking to the left is the next most common for me, but it is only about 10%, where down is about 80-85%. |
