Yes, a K3-3g, and I tried all that stuff.

My Kindle is on eBay right now, however, as I find the Nook to be a considerably superior reading instrument. I've given up trying reading PDFs on small screens with a very buggy viewers.

For anything to work well with this screen, it's going to have to paginate rather than scroll. A browser that started with mobile sites (much as I loathe them) and broke them into screen-size pages would probably be best.

If the page turn buttons were properly mapped (and for all I know, they are), then they would basically do 'page up' and 'page down' so the screen would only need to redraw once instead of continuously as it apparently attempts to do when you are using a touch gesture. Kindle does this out of necessity (no touch gestures) and it works reasonably well, given the hardware limitations.

Reasonable people will differ as to whether it is worth the engineering effort to deliver what will at best be an inferior web browsing experience when you compare to most tablet devices. My impression is that it would be worth fixing a few things to make it more useable, rather than let it linger in its current state.

That's a good point, though mobile sites are probably still preferable to limit the scrolling to one direction. What I like about the paginating idea is the possibility of carrying over the tap-to-turn gesture. When I run across an online article of any length that I'd like to read, I'll often pick up my Nook Color, go there in the DolphinHD browser, zoom to a comfortable font size and reflow the text for a more comfortable read. Even on the NC though, which scrolls fluidly enough, I'd love to have that one-tap page turn (or page down) in the browser.

Can this browser be used to accept terms at wifi hotspots that require either a username/pw or click yes to accept terms?

Because that's pretty much the only reason I use the browser on my classic nook...and the new one doesn't have 3G.

I just wanted a Nook STR owner to confirm this, but does the scroll on the web browser work just like it did on the linked youtube video?

Does the webpage only redraw after you finish the scrolling gesture? I've got a Kobo Touch and the page follows my finger around as I drag it, and then fully redraws once I stop. In exchange though, I can't download anything or do right clicks.

Toasted,
Buttons don't function to scroll on my Nook Touch.
The Nook Touch (undocumented) browser does not attempt to redraw as you gesture, it redraws after -- that is, when the gesture works. Vertical scrolling seems hit-or-miss. I wasn't able to use horizontal scrolling.

The browser software is similar to the first edition's browser, but much faster page loads, and buggy. ...but don't get me wrong. I think it's a great epub reader, and a mediocre PDF reader, and adding a almost tolerable web browser (without rooting) is pretty cool.

Thanks NookLuser. It is pretty cool to have a web browser on. I wouldn't use mine for casual surfing, but dictionary and wiki searches are pretty handy especially for the higher reading level books.

If it had font size and reflow options on the browser, it would be the ultimate fanfiction.net reader. One can dream I suppose.
