if i'm interested in the subject or have even a passing knowledge of the author i will. i get a sample of anything i'm unfamiliar with first.

I'm currently reading False Refuge. I've read and enjoyed all the others listed above. I have several more books in my collection that cost less than $2 but which I haven't read yet.
i had no knowledge of war of the worlds aftermath. i bought it then checked out the publisher and ended up buying several more of their books at .99 each. the .99 price point definitely helped that publisher/authors, i would have been far more gun-shy if they were more expensive.

Yes. I've got some really good bargains that way. If it is really a dud you can return it within a week anyway. I've only done that once when the product description was completely misleading and inaccurate.

And, of course, as xg4bx posted, one can download a sample to check out the appearance and formatting.

Absolutely! I have discovered some wonderful writers only spending 99 cents! (also for $2-$5ish). I'm always looking for good stories/writers and cost is not always a good barometer. Case in point: $12.99 for Steve Berry's Jefferson Key, which I could not even finish; I thought it was pretty boring and bloated; 99 cents for "The Devil's Hour" (Laura Cardinal series) by J. Carson Black. I have bought others by her also. Like this series a lot.

I have. It's a great way to introduce yourself to new authors that you probably normally wouldn't have picked up.

As an author, I figure realeasing a book at $1.99 is good option. I did this with Corrupted, though after a few weeks, I moved the price to $2.99. If anyting, sales increased, though I think there is a bias against books that are priced too low. I suppose people assume that they aren't worth their time.

Certainly. I've rarely spent more than $1 on a "new-to-me" author without a really good reason. I have learned that price and quality aren't hand-in-hand in this industry. I've reviewed books that were priced at 11.99 and were really not good, and also reviewed excellent books that were in the dollar range.

Yup. Bought a 99-center just a month ago. I needed something to read on the plane...

Oh yes, definitely, if I like the description as well as the previous works of the author. I've found some really enjoyable books that way, and saved quite a lot of money too!
