I agree, to the point that I think that if dedicated ereaders do fade away, one reason will be the atrocious design model set by Amazon with the Kindle.

Yep, the fan stuff eludes me. I have no loyalty to any one company and my mobile devices span the spectrum. I have Amazon, Android, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Clip+, Google, iOS, iPod, Kindle, Linux, Microsoft, MSI, Nook, SanDisk, and Windows. I love the devices listed or I wouldn't have bought them. I also like the companies that make them, with the exception of Apple and Microsoft. I won't go into the reasons here, but Apple I loathe.

That "atrocious design" has sold thousands of readers in USA. And remember, it's not just how nice the readers looks but how well integrates with the bookstore, customer support and online experience, it's a combo!

Granted, some users don't like how the Kindle looks like, but most people do and it's a hit.

You think the Kindle is atrocious. I thought my ex-boyfriend was cute. There are millions of people that would say we're both wrong.

I'm similar, but I am brand-loyal in some things as long as a company continues to serve my needs. But I also don't kid myself - I love and use several Dell products, but the fact is, if I hadn't learned to manipulate their support system in my favor, I probably would have ditched them. So in some cases, it's not loyalty but convenience of "the known" and knowing how to work the perks.

My 3 cents: I went to B&N today, and held and used the new nook.........I'm a Kindle/Amazon universe fan, but I have to admit, the Nook touch screen is nice. If this was sold by Amazon, and if it had a browser, etc., I'd be all over it. If I was buying my 1st ereader, the Nook might be it!.....although, I'm kind of counting on Amazon universe continuing to dominate the ebook market, and therefore, drive prices down and customer service up.

I guess you're thinking about consolidation of services here, idk, but monopolies tend to lead to the supplier dictating terms (including prices) to consumers as well as laborers, and not bothering to innovate.

I have no brand loyalty and purchase a ton of stuff from Amazon every year. Perhaps you think my reference to sheep meant any Amazon buyer? Not so, only consumers who can't be bothered to notice a Nook isn't, in fact, a Kindle. Those buyers will, as I noted, not be making ANY stops here for advice, lol.

If you're referring to my post, no, I was only following off of the last part about people coming here for advice. Forgot to trim the quote. My other statements were in reference to the genuine fanfighting going on before your post and in dozens of other posts.

While the term "sheep" is too often used to mean "anyone who buys a brand that I think sux", I read your post closely and realized that probably wasn't what you meant.

Most of almost everything is copied from something else.

This is becoming the century of copiers suing copiers because they copied it first, and therefor
own it.

It is, in the same way that my Panasonic copier is a Xerox machine. The new Kobo and the new Nook are obviously 'Kindles'.

Thats just the way it is.

I don't know which Ereader came first on the market, even though Sony had it for a while. But it is Amazon Kindle that really made ereading popular, IMO. Ebooks had been around for a long time. I had mine for a while, but these became popular due to ereaders.

Like computers these will continue to get better and better.
