Folks might want to look at this to see what the various US banks charge for foreign transactions. Seems greedy to me, but then again, we're talking US banks.

I can't buy from Kobo at all. My U.S. bank debit card will not accept non U.S. transactions at all, and since Kobo's ebook business server is based in Canada, I've always been out of luck. However, I prefer Books on Board to almost anywhere else anyway because I can buy more than one book at a time from them. I hate it that Amazon and BN both have that "one at a time" thing. My bank takes it as multiple duplicate transactions and ends up denying all but the first thing I try to purchase.

I had the same issue with my hubby's card which is why I used my Paypal card till it expired and now use a prepaid Debit Card for my books.

We're aware that some US banks charge Kobo customers international transaction fees, because Kobo is incorporated in Canada. We've been working through the legalities of this, and are nearly complete the process to establish a US foot print that will allow our customers to avoid this fee.

We are in the final testing of this change and expect to have it resolved in two weeks.

Great news! Kobo seems to be really on top of all that international stuff, for sure.

I tried to put in a borders gift card number and got the following error...

Sorry, but something went wrong with your purchase. If this problem persists, please contact Kobo Customer Care and provide them with error code [275].

I just want to know if there is something I am doing wrong and to alert others of this issue.

I was thinking I could buy gift cards from Borders and use them at Kobo. But no go so far.

Kobo has to be on top. Because of the transaction fees, they would lose a lot of business in the USA.

Thanks for the heads up. I almost made it. I've been making a concerted effort to burn off all my Borders gift cards and I've got $2.82 left on the last one. It's annoying to be left with too little credit to make a purchase worthwhile, but it beats the alternative.
