I got the book, but I would have gotten a significantly better deal if I had been able to buy from a different place. |

I've heard the compression they use was always available to mobis. The only difference is they changed the file ID code. Do you have any details as to what deviates?

I've read azw uses a higher compression option; unless I'm mistaken and that was not implemented by Amazon directly, could be that the same option is also available on mobi, but not used. But I almost sure I read that the compression was different between those two. Last edited by jocampo; 05-27-2011 at 08:38 PM. |

I didn't vote because I don't have a reader yet (other than the apps I use on my android phone), but I found this an interesting topic, because I did wonder how much it really mattered.
The idea of book selection has at least influenced me though. As I was thinking through my choices, I thought about how many books I got from different places, and realized most of my purchases are from Amazon, with a smattering of books from B&N when I could get a better price. I haven't, however, found that B&N had things that Amazon did not (things I was looking for anyway), so I'm leaning more toward the kindle. |

Since having my kindle there has not been any books that I couldn't buy but would have been able to buy elsewhere. When I used my Sony reader on several occasions there were books that I was unable to buy but would have been able to buy from the kindle store. Also in a lot of cases the books I was able to buy were cheaper on the kindle store.

Maybe my book club just likes to pick esoteric books, but at least 3 times in the last year I have found the best price for a book, or for one the only source, was directly from the author's website or from the publisher. These books were not available from any major ebook store. IF you are the sort of person who only reads best sellers, then I think any reader and any book store will work for you.
