rcdc, I fully understand that you aren't endorsing the sugar cube technique. For all we know, Amazon might change the way the logo is applied, the 'paint' that's used, or the case material. But, did it work well for you?

Thumbs up Thank you!

I've just been to the Invisible Defenders site and will be placing an order. Thank you so much for posting this information! I'm a new Kindle 3 owner, and up until now had only seen the skins with open keys. I didn't really see a need for a skin (beyond cosmetic), but the keyless style looks like it would protect the Kindle keys quite nicely.

May I ask if you also use a case (such as M-edge)? And do you find it makes the Kindle feel hotter at all?

Again, thanks for the information!

You're very welcome - always happy to offer information! Yes, I use an M-Edge custom case (pics below of case and skin). I had it out of the case the other day because I was cleaning it, right after several hours of use and it wasn't holding any noticeable heat. And, since I just happen to be charging it right now, I just took it out of the case and the back isn't warm at all after charging for over two hours. (Some batteries get warm while charging, but apparently the Kindle batteries don't have that issue.)

I do want to mention that cases like the M-Edge and others that use a corner strap mounting system can leave little impressions or "stretch marks" in the skin right under those straps, but if you have it in the case most of the time you won't even notice it. It's purely an aesthetic issue, and doesn't pull the skin loose or anything, but I did want to mention it.

jimh12345,

The case material and paint are almost definitely the same. The sugar cube worked well to remove the paint, unfortunately it also slightly scratched the plastic. I am not a practiced hand at this technique so you may have better luck.

If you do try I would suggest rubbing your cube on a hard surface prior to using it on your kindle. This might take the edge off the particularly sharp grains while still keeping the cube adequately abrasive.

Good luck, and please post your results. These logos everywhere annoy the hell out of me.

Tell me about it. The Nissan logo on my car was giving me the stink-eye the other day.

Covering up or removing the logo will deprive those poor folks free advertising, along with and most importantly, your personal endorsement.

Dremel will remove it. Actually I had a Honda Element and removed all the "H"'s and Element logos. They were not screwed in - came off with fishing line. Now unfortunately, the whole vehicle has been removed - stolen in March.

Hey now... be nice.
While I admit that I can't relate at all to those who are opposed to (or offended by) brands and logos—and may throw out the occasional innocuous (hopefully) jab their direction—I hope you all realize that I'd be willing to defend your right to rub sugar cubes on various gadgets/appliances with my third cousin's life, if need be.

This, a mere four hours after you, yourself, posted in this thread. If it wasn't for your avatar, I might be upset. I just can't seem to stay mad at him no matter what...

This thread introduced a few people to the awesome NoKey skins, so it was not a waste. Hey, are you bothered by the color of my Kindle's skin? Is that what this is about?

(Can you tell I'm bored and seeking diversions? Maybe I should open a bottle of wine and head over to Goodreads. Less chance of getting in trouble over there. )
