I think they're trying to burn off any old inventory at BB and that's why they had the 900. The only boxes they had on the shelves were one 350 and this box. They did have display units though of each as well. I'd already called all the local BBs to see if they had the 950 and none confirmed they had one (I only stopped by this one since it was on the way home from the dog park and I figured, why not?). The closest store that said they had one was over an hour and a half away and it just wasn't worth the drive.

It's weird, I went to Walmart yesterday too and they had the old PRS 300 and 600 on display and for sale. I wonder why they didn't have the 350 or 650?

The 900 is going back today. I used it yesterday afternoon and while I loved the look of the black and the music player was surprisingly useful, I couldn't get past the shiny screen. It feels a bit heavy too. :-( It's not bad in sunlight, but last night I was watching my brother play LA Noire while reading a book and I could barely read the text. It wasn't so much the glare as the lack on contrast. I guess I was spoiled by the PRS-350 lol. Hmmm, I wonder if I can get it back from my sister. Nah that would not be nice sister behavior.

I don't blame you, anabolina. If it were even cheaper (under $100) then maybe it'd be worth it despite its older technology and flaws. But for that price, I'd say go for the new nook touch or spend more to get the 950 or 650.

Or you can get another 350 for yourself, several places have prices between $109-129 still.

That's true Ripplinger, there are still lots of sales on the 350, but I really do want a 6 inch screen, I always felt I was having the change the pages too frequently on the 350 whereas the 900 may actually have been too big. It felt like my eyes had to travel very far vertically to get to the top of the reader after reading to the bottom. :-) Still I think I could have gotten used to it without the glare problem. I'm returning it to a different BB near my bank on the way home from work this afternoon so maybe they'll have a forgotten 950 sitting around ;-) I'd really like the new Nook but am a little scared of being tied to a store even if you can sideload books.

The red 650s are available in the US SonyStore right now.

The 900 was great at the time -improved contrast from 600/700 if you didn't mind the glare. However since you already have a 350, it is probably hard to adjust to the older models. You might want to wait a few weeks to hear about the Nook Touch and Kobo reviews to see if one of those is a good option for you.

Yes Bookworm_Girl, it was really hard to read from the 900 screen after being used to the 350 screen. I called my sister at lunch to see how she's enjoying it and remind her that she still hasn't paid me the $70 she said she would grrr. She's enjoying fanfiction on it though :-). I am so tempted by the new Nook(less my the Kobo honesty since I like the page turn buttons on the Sony), but after using the music player on the 900, I now BELIEVE in using one device to listen to music and read a book at the same time, lol.

I returned the 900 to a different Best Buy at lunch today and looked at the ereader section to make sure a 950 hadn't popped up(you know they grow in stores, right?) and the sales guy tried to sell me on the display model. Yeah, I never buy display models since people tend to be pretty rough with them. Still, he said the floor models are usually discounted 10-15 % so the 950 would then cost $169-179 which was tempting. I wonder if this is one of those situations in which you can haggle a bit. He said 10% at first and then 15% when I didn't bite. While the device was a floor model there were no scratches anywhere on it and only a few smudges on the screen and a sticker on the back so I am tempted. the only thing is that eink screens are really fragile, would a floor model be worth the risk?

I'm so tempted by an acutally in stock 650 Poppaea, but I have a budget for my ereader and it's $175(all my discretionary money for this pay period). I could live with the $199, but $230 is pushing it a bit.

If you are strong enough to stick to it, I'll be awed!

Texas is huge, but just in case you are near DFW area I saw a 950 in a BB in Mansfield, TX yesterday. That is on Hwy 287 south of Arlington.

That's a tough situation. I normally wouldn't buy a floor model either but in your situation for that price, I might bite. If you decide to, I'd suggest that if it's still there when you go back in, try to get them to give you 25% off. I think you can haggle since it seems they want to be done with it. $150 would be a fantastic price for a 950.

Just FYI, we went to look at some of the Nook Color cases for the wife's new 950 and no luck on any she liked but we decided to compare the 950 to the size of the Nook Classic and they were very close. We decided to try out the M-Edge Platform Jacket for the Nook Classic and it was a snug fit but perfect for her. She has a purple Platform for the 505 and now a lime green one for her 950...for $5 at that (we had $10 in rewards certificates for Best Buy and it is on clearance for $15)

I have also informed her that if she decides that she wants the Nook STR instead of the 950, it is not going to be returned. I will be keeping it as a back up. I have already had one 650 break. I would rather go to the 950 should it happen again rather than going back to the 505.

Where in the name of Coco Chanel did you find a jade green PJ for the Nook Classic for five piastres!? Inquiring addicts want to ken. You don't live in New York, do you? There's one BB that might still carry that piece, but it's so far uptown I'd need an abacus to calculate the street numbers.

I am actually in South Florida. Like I said, it was marked at $15 and I had $10 in Best Buy Rewards certificates. I think they may still have a couple at our store so there is hope for you in NY.

The wife is happy now.

Yes, I did catch your certificate qualification, mon frere, but even so, fifteen smackers for a firkin of suave and goosing-new protection is a wee Hank better than anything the same money will net you on the M-Edge site. I've tended to be lucky with ME's "As-Is" (read: deformity) sale, but flawless, pal o' mine, is flawless.

And the Nook Classic cases are all on sale for 50% off too at the Barnes and Noble webpage. :-) There are some really attractive ones at the B&N website.
