I liked that article. Thank you for giving me my daily chuckle.

Who needs a book you'll never read to be a chick magnet? Just get an iPhone!

It's not the size of your book collection that matters. It's how you use it.

Go the extra mile and make a book shelf out of books!

Spoiler:

It's like something out of Seinfeld.

I love this and am horrified at the thought of putting screws into a book. Even an arguably worthless one like that.

The World Book Encyclopedia is worthless? Granted, it has to some extent been superseded by the Intarwebs, but still . Many a good childhood afternoon learning from those ... *sigh*. I wish I still had my Childcraft books - the hand-drawn art in it (especially for Our Universe) was just magnificent.

In any case, I could never do anything like that to a book, even trashy ones. Respect for books was too deeply ingrained in me by my dear mother . That's why even the idea of ripping apart a book to scan it (though it is sort of a kind of immortality for the poor martyred book and intellectually, I know it's not a big deal) makes me a little queasy at times . Still, to each his own I guess.

I couldn't read the year on that particular encyclopedia, but presumably it's a really out-dated version. My parents have a set from 1978 that's just hanging out in their attic that I'd classify as worthless.

I'm the same way! My husband doesn't hesitate to highlight or dog ear his books, and it drives me crazy. He was banned from reading my paper books when he bent the spine on one because he left it open, face-down, to mark his page.

no they arent worthless. I still have mine- see the image earlier in this thread- from '76. and I still go over and grab one whenever I think i want to look up something or my son asks a question. its so easy to grab it from the shelf and flip it open. the information, barring better understandings from scientific advancements, is still as accurate today as when they were printed. i read them from cover to cover as they arrived and have read the entire set many times over. i havent managed to remember it all but there's still time
