My stories come into my head many different ways. A lot of my ideas that I think are the most original are still just ideas. I plan to write them some day, but don't know when I'll get around to it.

Sometimes I take a story idea that's been done many times and I think "How would I write this and how would it be different?". "How would I write a robot story?" became His Robot Girlfriend. "How would I write a vampire story?" became my current project-- the working title is Blood Trade.

For my Senta and the Steel Dragon Series, I first imagined a magical Victorian world and then wondered how various things that I've thought about would be different there. What would colonial imperialism be like? What would drug abuse look like? etc.

Tesla's Stepdaughters began with characters I had created while playing Rock Band. I then created a parallel world in which they could exist, and the plot just suggested itself.
