An LRF file, by definition, has no DRM. The file format with DRM is LRX. Sony appear to be the only ones able to create LRX files.

I am just so overjoyed by this news. Even though I'm Mac only at home I just ordered my Reader last night thinking for 58.00 it'd still be worth it even if I'm limited to free classics on the Mac. Now today I find out I have another 16000 titles to choose from and most of them written in this century! Finally a Connect site that is Mac compatible, is cheaper, can be easily navigated, and isn't locked to Windows. My prayers have been answered (even if not by Sony). Thank you thank you Fictionwise!

Just to be sure, if I buy a book that is Multiformat, it will eventually get the LRF treatment, even if it doesn't have it currently, correct? I found a couple books that I'd like to buy, but the list doesn't seem to include LRF right now.

It sounds like they're working hard on converting them, so I'm very optimistic.

Don't forget about libprs500. It works on the Mac and can convert LIT books to lrf.

Yup, they're using libprs500 to do the conversions. Now if only I could get them to show their appreciation by giving me a free account ;-)

Hey man! We could set up a group here that'll write them nice letters of recommendation on your part. You've certainly earned that in our hearts!
Any one know an address that would do it?

They still need to work a bit on their formatting (a new story starts on the last line of a page with the first of three title lines showing while the other two are on the next page) but these are user formatting errors, not part of libprs500. These are automated mechanical conversions, but when you are converting 16,000 titles there is little time to tweek each one by hand.

Hmmm! I was thinking more of an e-address. Remember when we decided to write to publishers? We set up a letter that everyone copies, signs and slams it to them.

I'm just happy to see libprs500 being used on a large scale. I certainly never imagined this would happen when I first wrote it as a personal project!

Yay! I've been waiting for something like this! It was so sad to flip through all the books that fictionwise has but not be able to buy them in a compatible format for my sony.

Good job fictionwise!

Wow! I sent them an email a couple weeks ago, suggesting that they add the Sony format. I'm sure I wasn't the first, but I like the timing. It makes me feel like they listened to me.

I wasn't forgetting, but buying a book in .lit and then having to convert it to something else in order to read it is like going to Starbucks, ordering a latte, and getting handed a bag of whole beans. Its nice to see a major ebook retailer do all the work for me.
