I have two very good friends (different families) both in age ranges between my parents age and me. both have more than 2 children, and both have one child that has gone horribly wrong, as in felonies. in both families all the other children are at or above any expectations for success and social responsibility as well as raising happy well adjusted children of their own. is there a "bad gene"? is it luck of the draw? did they blink at the wrong time? how does this happen?

The sadness that I feel is about the two who did nothing.
The rapist is scum. But those two people? I'm not saying that all who turn out bad can blame it on their parents. I've known some (well, one, anyway) from good, caring, families that have turned out bad. But I've seen more than a few instances where kids, apparently, have no restraints placed on them. Sometimes I think that it's safer for the parent if they don't question their kids, never mind discipline them. But there are other situations where you have to ask yourself "What the hell is the matter with people"? Man Sues Parents Of Boy He Hit, Killed With Car |

![]() Right, I think so too. ![]() My parents never explained to me how women get pregnant. Sex never happened to be the topic of our discussion: I never asked and they never had the intention to bring up that topic. Somehow, at the age of 14-16 I managed to come across a relevant thread about sex in an encyclopedia father bought me ![]() ![]() I think books is a wonderful solution to parents, if they think they can't explain it exactly (due to the lack of advanced knowledge ![]() |

China tells living Buddhas to obtain permission before they reincarnate
"Tibet’s living Buddhas have been banned from reincarnation without permission from China’s atheist leaders. The ban is included in new rules (this article is from 2007) intended to assert Beijing’s authority over Tibet’s restive and deeply Buddhist people." Sorry that I'm a little late with breaking news. ![]() |

I'll probably get someone mad at me for nit-picking, but here is a serious nit to pick.
Gizmag, one of my everyday reads had an article about an "environmentally-friendly" underground home. Great! I've worked in a job that was completely underground with no problems at all. I LIKED IT. ![]() So I was very interested in what it might look like inside. From the initial picture it would obviously be a little different than I expected. ![]() Looking at the pictures in the article I can see that this is not an, as yet to be built, home for "environmentally friendly" conscious people, but for someone who has more money that they know what to do with. Fair enough. I'd like to have too much money also. ![]() Nits to pick:
I'll give this article, and house (if it ever gets built), an environmental F. |

Another winner.
Eco-friendly Doghouse Heated and Cooled with GeoThermal Energy "The DogEden doghouse is supposed to appeal to a dog’s natural instincts to build dens in the ground." ![]() Sure. Makes sense to me. ![]() |

First, the news about a new MS treatment.
Italian doctor may have found surprisingly simple cure for Multiple Sclerosis Second, the article in question. Liberation treatment unproven - doctor QUOTE: "The province's doctors are urging caution for multiple sclerosis patients who are considering alternative treatments and encouraging them to consult a physician first." QUESTION: Are well educated people really smarter? I have to wonder. Here we have a quote from a doctor (I must presume that he has a higher education of some sort). OK, so he's in Canada and things may be different there. I really don't know. Are balloon angioplasties done by non medical people in Canada? You know, like a Jiffy Lube oil change. Just asking. |

OK, it's summertime and I'm thinking of a 12 volt fan. So I'm off to Amazon to get an idea about what's good / what's not so good.
The reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt. Some items are worthless and get a single star. Other times someone will get a bad item and think that all items from the manufacturer are bad. Sometimes someone will rave about how great something is. And I hate it. That's life. But sometimes you'll get reviews from people that just leave you wondering "How the hell did they learn to turn on the computer?" RoadPro RP-1179 12V Heavy Duty Metal 2-Speed Fan 2.0 out of 5 stars Roadpro 12-Volt Heavy Duty Metal Fan, May 27, 2009 The fan isn't effective in keeping you cool during summer time cause it blows hot air. Doesn't make much of a difference. ![]() Last edited by SameOldStory; 06-18-2011 at 10:22 PM. |
