I wouldn't buy any new Kindle at the moment... my K2US hasn't died yet (which is what it will take for me to even contemplate an ereader purchase).

I voted "yes" but would like to clarify my answer.

I would pay $89 for it without a second thought.

At $99 I would give it serious consideration.

At $114 I would only buy if I found out that there are good deals offered exclusively to this Kindle.

The initial crop of offers have enough deals in them to make it free for me, plus an additional $26 in cash. I'm jumping at this price point.

Here are some of the initial offers for this new Kindle:
  • $10 for $20 Amazon.com Gift Card
  • $6 for 6 Audible Books (normally $68)
  • $1 for an album in the Amazon MP3 Store
  • Buy one of 30 Kindle bestsellers with your Visa card and get $10 Amazon.com credit
  • 50% off Roku Streaming Player (normally $99)
I'm in the market for the following items either for myself or for gifts:
  • Kindle 3 - $25 savings
  • Roku XDS - $50 savings
  • Audible books - $62 savings
  • Music - $8 savings
  • eBooks - $10 savings
  • Gift Cards - $10 savings
Do the math: $50 + $62 + $8 + $10 + $10 = $140 = FREE KINDLE and $26 left over.

I'm getting one - I love free when it's stuff I was getting anyway.
What's the fine print on all these?

If there are mandatory viewing ads involved, then they would have to pay me to use it, not the other way around.

Alternatively, it could come "'free', supported by ads", but I'd better get some "'free', supported by ads" books of my choice to read upon it.

And those are only "deals" if they are things you would have bought anyway.

We've talked about a Roku player but I can't convince the family to give up DirectTV. I wouldn't use the Audible books. The MP3 deal and the Amazon credit are no brainers for me.

We're swimming in eReading devices around here but I'll be really interested in how this new offer works out for the guinea pigs who pre-order. So please keep us informed.

We're a big tent party, we'll even take people who fall for Amazon's schemes.

I don't have a problem with this. $25 is $25. From what I've read, the ads just replace the screensaver. I don't look at the screensaver anyways. If it gives me the option to purchase $20 Amazon GCs for $10, that's a major bonus. Some people would even pay to get access to deals like that.

But, I don't want the WiFi model. I need the 3G model to replace my Kindle 2 3G.

I would buy one and then promptly remove the screen saver adds.

Personally I'd be more interested in subsidized content not a subsidized eReader. I don't want to have to look at ads reading my personal content. But I don't so much mind ads if it's free/subsidized content I'm reading

After giving this some thought, I think I've decided that I would prefer regular ads on a device that was free.

I prefer the absence of ads, but ads for good deals don't bother me when I read my email, so they probably wouldn't bother me with this.

But since the Agency Six are dictating Amazon's prices and guaranteeing profits from their eBooks, I think I would prefer to go the old Gillette route of "Give 'em the razor and sell 'em the blade." And if they can give me the Kindle because the advertisers are paying for it, then I'll take it and use it.
