This! I cannot resist the siren lure of free books. Thankfully I'm a mere novice compared to some of you - only have about 350 on my K3, and only half of those unread. So I'm doing great! Right? Right???

I only read about 10 but I am not worried. Why are you so troubled anyway? You will not be torture by not reading unless it's your assignment

I have just under 250 books on my Nook, which is supposedly my hard limit; it means I always have a broad selection and can switch as my whimsy takes me. I have a somewhat different collection on my Touch and fewer on my other devices because they're newer. I'm over the freebies (and is it just me, or are they much crappier than they used to be, anyway?). The big thing is that I'm not anal about it any more. I want my library books and anything I'm currently reading available across the board, but the rest can wait until I get around to them. Public domain books and books in the cloud will be there. And no device is forever.

I just re-read The Game of Thrones and follow on books. it took me about a month so I had not "gone online" with my Kindle for awhile. finished the last one this morning, so I downloaded all of the books I have been acquiring since then.... 5 pages of new books

It's like packing for a trip. It doesn't matter that I won't have time or need to wear everything I pack. But what if I get a fancy to wear my blue sandals and I didn't pack them?

What if it gets cold on the night I'm wearing the outfit that doesn't go with the single sweater I was allowed to bring? ![]() Having all these ebooks are like being able to bring all your shoes and sweaters with you, without ever having to explain or apologize to your husband for the weight. ![]() Sometimes, there's also the old thing about the hunt being more fun than the kill... with books, there are so many interesting trails to follow... |

There is nothing as frustrating as being on the plane with 'nothing to read'. So why not? 500 books takes up as much space in your backpack as 5.

![]() He gets to choose. Either I bring the small carry on with the extra collapsible suitcase (to bring back all the clothes I have to purchase there - due to not having room to bring them) or the larger suitcase with a small carry on (so I can bring most of my stuff and have a little room to bring back just a few things). Problem solved all around... books and my stuff.

After following this thread, I felt guilty while getting them, but also got that thrill and high. I used the same techniques that I use to acquire other short stories occasionally. It really is an addiction.

True and sometimes a person likes to skip about a bit. I mean one day you might want to re-read Treasure Island and the next you feel more like a Tom Clancy or Stephen King book or whatever author a person wants to read (assuming their work is in ebook format) and having a large number of choices is good for that reason as well.

Add to that the fact that I seldom know what I'm going to read beyond the next book, and am always discovering new, unforeseen books that affect that decision, placing more than a few books at a time onto the device offers no advantage unless I suspect I won't be in range of an ebook source for a while. However, it would present one disadvantage by way of making it easier to jump from book to book before finishing them- a habit I am trying to avoid (though some folks may find pleasurable). To each his own. Last edited by OtterBooks; 04-11-2011 at 02:27 PM. |

Hello, my name is Latinandgreek and I am a bookaholic. And I DO jump from book to book before finishing... I've currently got about 4 novels on the go, and countless books for school.
