I know Amazon rewards authors who charge lower prices by giving them a higher cut. They also give the lower cut if the author/pub disables tts. |

No, you only get 30% if they are priced at less than $2.99. Presumably because of the transportation and payment processing costs involved, which would be a higher percentage of the payment for low value items.

Right, it's 30% royalty if it's under $2.99.
But my understanding is that Amazon gives them 70% if they price it anywhere between $2.99 and $9.99. (and don't turn off TTS and aren't less than 20% cheaper than the paper version.) I'm not sure what they give if it's over $9.99 or under $0.99, but 30% sounds right. |

Another thing is: how high was Amazon's bid? Was it just a bit higher, or a crap ton higher in order to compensate for the exclusivity? Anyway, this put the book in the hands of the Big Six and Agency Pricing, so I can't imagine many people here cheering for either side. |

Personally I think she was stupid to give away ebook rights, she should have just sold realbook rights.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/...60J2R620100120 Under the new program, which takes effect on June 30, [2010] Amazon will pay authors and publishers 70 percent of a book's list price, net of delivery costs. The plan is limited to e-books whose list price is between $2.99 and $9.99. |

I'm only saying to pirate exclusive eBooks It's an affront to readers (people who read). If you don't read Amazon's eBooks and/or strip DRM/convert (which a lot of people do not), you cannot get the exclusive eBooks. That's just wrong. |

I have an iPhone. I don't read eBooks with it. I have a computer and a laptop. I don't read eBooks with either. I don't have an iPad or any other tablet. I have a Sony Reader PRS-650. It doesn't handle Kindle eBooks. Lots of people are in a situation where they have a device they use to read eBook that doesn't handle Kindle eBooks and they do not use their computer to read eBooks. |

It doesn't change the fact that if they have a computer, they have a device that can be turned into a Kindle device, should they choose to do so. (If we want to get a little more technical - if they have a computer with the necessary specifications needed to to support the necessary applications). Of course, for your hypothetical scenario, that all depends on whether or not it is important enough to them, as far as, breaking the law. Since I'm not a huge fan of breaking laws or risking the welfare of my family, I would probably choose an alternate route and no longer wish to read an Amazon exclusive ebook. |
