It's not so far-fetched as it seems. Google has already developed the software that could be ported onto a future ereader: Gmail Motion

But seriously, there IS such a thing as eye-tracking cameras, they are used to track how much time you spend looking at the content of a page vs the ads on a page, for example. So... why not?
