This sucks! I have a T-Mobile family plan for me and my hubby and I think it's a pretty good deal (750 anytime mins/unlimited text/unlimited nights & weekends for $69.99). This is perfect for us. We have no desire to get a data plan.

I don't dislike AT&T (I have them for my home phone and DSL) but I always thought their wireless plans were a bit pricey and not as good a deal as T-Mobile. For now, I think we'll stick to T-Mobile even after our contract expires. Our contracts are set to expire this year.

I was not aware that the US anti-trust review includes a congressional vote. Did I miss that law being passed?

Yep. I, in effect, hire his staff to negotiate, with Verizon, a much lower price for cell phone service than what my family members -- I've a daughter who tells me she uses about 2,500 texts a month -- would pay Verizon directly. Plus no contract. Plus you can get an additional free reconditioned phone every time you pay your monthly fee. Plus we lost a phone, and they allowed the remaining paid days in the month to roll over into one of these spare free phones I've gotten. And after all that, he makes enough profit to be the richest man in the world.

No, it doesn't require a congressional review, but that doesn't stop congressional committees from holding hearings and pressuring the agencies who do have to give approval. One of congresses favorite ploys is to hold the hearings and threaten agency funding or make agency funding contingent on a certain result. Happens daily.

When was the last time the US gov block a merger?

Sprint is objecting. Maybe that'll help. Basically, we can only hope to have one corporation butt head another. God knows nobody cares about the consumers. Well, okay, there's Al Franken. But he was on freaking SNL, so who's going to take him seriously?

Verizon's CEO at CTIA just said they wouldn't even bother to try to block the merger. "Anything can go through if you make enough concessions,"

Quite often, actually. Look at the Federal Trade Commission web site:

Underwater basket weaving aint so difficult once you get used to it. It's not underwater rocket science, people.

But BP Oil has to pay for the clean-up after the ceremony.
