Over the past three months I've had between 15 and 20 epubs on my Kobo. In the same time-frame I've bought about 30 epubs.

On my Kobo, I like to have a bunch of new books, and three or four favourites. The reasons I don't load more than twenty books at a time are (1) I am a slow reader (2) I prefer to read one book at a time (3) I don't like to flip through too many titles to find one i want to read.

Generally, I like to reread favourites, and recently I've found it difficult to start books I have never read before. Unfortunately, that means I have a backlog of books I've been meaning to get to but keep putting off.

so as i stated in the OP that i don't think i could read several books at once, well that's changed lol.
i have 3 books open that i've read about 20% and one at 34% (that one is getting more love) - i'm finding it easier to have more books read at once now with the kobo. at first i thought it would be tough to keep everything organized but it's really easy and if i don't feel like reading a certain book i can choose one of the others, it's great.

When I go to the books list, it shows I have 293 books on my Kobo2 - that includes the 100 books that came with it

I know the thread is a bit old, but i wanted to add my two cents. I have been using the kobo for about five months. Because of its lack or organizing functions I find myself storing the books on my pc with Calibre and only keeping about 20 on it at a time, then deleting as I go. I find it saves me the hassle of finding the next book, especially when reading a series of books.

I have about 80 books of my own on my Kobo1. The freebie 100 are not shown in the list.

Certainly agree about the lack of organisational options. I recently have been using my Sony PRS-300 at work as it has been too hot for lunchtime walks. The ability of the Sony to sort on collections, authors and titles has been refreshing.

I keep close to my entire library on my Kobo. I have close to 600 books (not incl the 100 pre-loaded) and I have no problems with it being to slow. The initial start up can take a few minutes but that doesnt really worry me.
I also dont mind searching thru the library for what to read next, I sometimes fing things I've forgotten I have! But I rename alot of my files using Calibre so for series I have the titles as (for eg) Tony Hill 6- The Fever of the Bone so all the series are together and relatively easy to find using the 'by Author' search.

I win (so far), currently at 1747. Using 929MB of 1110MB internal memory.

Although 100 are the free included ones and theres also the Kobo user guide so really it's really 1646. Basically if I think I might read a specific book sometime, eventually, I will just load everything by that author on. So I have things like every Asimov, Philip K Dick, William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, etc...

I was considering putting the entire sffebooks torrent onto an sd card (it's probably well over 20k books by now), but it would take way to long to convert and process them all.

Takes quite a while for the Kobo to 'process' the ones I have already. Also would like some way to search the collection on the Kobo.

I only got this thing 2 days ago as well, so far I have probably spent more time loading stuff on than reading but I have gotten the process down fairly well now and because their all in a Calibre library I can factory reset the device and just reupload.

I did have a few problems with that many books, I found one particular epub that caused the 'processing' screen to crash and reboot the Kobo, and there where also a few books that seemed to refuse to show up but they seem to be fine now.

And I thought my 247 books was a "bit excessive". Yes, some of the ebooks are faulty or something and do crash the Kobo - get rid of them as it can cause problems with the SD card.

have currently about 300 total - the original 100 in system memory, and about 200 sideloaded to a 4gb SD card.

All I have on my Kobo are whats left of the pre-loads ( I've deleted most of them with the new delete book option.) Plus about fifty side-loaded onto an SD card.
