I've having issues with powering down - I hold it the button until the blue light appears, take my finger off and it goes to sleep. Hold it down light, it goes to sleep. I think the trick to powering down now is to hold it until it actually powers down. (This is during reading a Kobo book, not sure on a side load)

I've also noticed that a number of my books in my "I'm reading" list are labelled as "open" rather than a percentage read.

Open is the status reported when you simply open a book and don't turn any pages. The percentage will show once you've flipped a page.
Closed is the status reported when you close a book with the new close function and finished is the status when you click through the last page.

I always open my books when I load them (so that they stay in I'm Reading and so I know they have loaded) and always flip past the title page, copyright, acknowledgements, quotes, etc and start on the first page of the chapter.

Before the update, it usually said 1% (or more, depending on the size of book!), now it just says Open (even tried flipping to the second page of first chapter...).

I also had a book that just said Open and not a percentage read indicator. It stayed like this all the time I was reading it. Can't remember if it was a kepub or a side-loaded epub.

I've got a Kobo 1, so I'm not using the latest firmware for the Kobo 2. Maybe it's something about the book and isn't related to the latest firmware?

I have version 1.9 on my Kobo, but there seems to be a problem with the Goto function. I tried to get the reader to go to chapter 20, and it stopped at chapter 13. I tried again asking it to go to chapter 19, it went to chapter 10. It never went over chapter 13, no matter what number I was asking for.
Anybody had that problem?

Thank you everyone for all the help you provide on this forum.

It's best to use the Table of Contents to get to a specific chapter, and the GoTo to get to a certain page in that chapter. The GoTo chapter is not useful because it considers every break as a chapter. Either use Next and Previous chapter or use TOC to select a chapter.

Won't stay asleep

Since firmware 1.9, my wifi Kobo wakes up spontaneously--I'm afraid to sleep the unit for fear the battery will exhaust (it has done that several times--it does not sleep due to inactivity once it spontaneously wakes from sleep).

I saw on another post that it may be from newspaper & magazines being set to download daily. That must be turned on by default in this firmware version, since I had not noticed it before. Go to Setting-General and turn off "download daily."

I asked the Kobo Help Desk about reverting to the earlier software but it seems that I am pooched. I don't want to have to return it for a replacement if there is some other recourse.
I was reading through this thread to see if anyone else had this problem.
The page turns are noticeably slower with the upgrade. And I have an issue powering down. I hold the button sufficiently long (I think) and it either goes to the sleep mode or (more often) the boot page (with the little squares at the bottom). It has occasionally taken me several attempts to Power Down.

So far, not liking it, wish I had not accepted the upgrade.

I'm not happy with update 1.9 (r25373, Mar 29 2011).

Battery life wasn't great to begin with on the Kobo. But now it's horrible. Maybe it's the issue you guys are talking about (not staying asleep). But now when I go back to the Kobo, the battery is nearly gone. I've always had Wifi turned off and no newspaper updating.

Page turns are definitely slower.

And resizing the font size will often crash the Kobo. At least the font is changed when you reboot the Kobo!

My page turns are fine, the font size works perfectly, and the battery lasts well over a month. I would say that would be the norm.

So, you either got a bad load with your firmware or you have a hardware fault.

Purely speculation based on personal observation: it might depend on the format of the file or perhaps even the makeup of the file.

O'Reilly epubs seem to be rather slow. The free book Frankenstein, however, is fast.
As is another book, converted by Calibre apparently.

I took a peak into the O'Reilly epub, there is quite a load of CSS in that file. Which would explain why it's so slow. Perhaps the books you read have less CSS?
(With much CSS I mean in the range of 300 lines without comments)
