I'm just curious as to why this is even a question. The Nook Color is selling better than any other comparably priced reading device - of course people are reading on it. Rooting has always been a minority activity.

My husband has the nook color and he really enjoys reading on it. He reads much more now than he used to. He has not rooted it.

Read on mine exclusively since November when I received it in the mail. Love it. This is the device I have been waiting a long time for.

I have no problem reading on it and that is pretty much all I do with it. I have only a vague idea of what "rooting" means and would certainly never attempt it!
Before I went to B&N to buy it I had decided on the classic Nook after reading reviews and studying the features, but after getting there playing with both of them the color was the hands-down winner. To me the navigation on the e-ink nook was not at all intuitive. I suppose I am just too used to using my ipod touch and so the touch screen is a much better fit for me. And with two small children at home I don't normally get to read for long stretches at a time so the LCD screen doesn't bother me, nor does the weight, which seems about the same weight as a hardback book. I have to read in the dark a lot as my one year has to sleep with me (he has epilepsy so I have to keep him close to monitor for seizures), so the back-lit screen is a major plus for me. I do turn the brightness all the way down in the dark to make it a little less blinding!

Hi Lemurion, do you have a source for that NOOKcolor sales statement? I'd like to know where the various ereaders stand with regards to marketshare.

The best information I've found so far is Nov 2010 survey by ChangeWave, with results reported by InvestorPlace, that places Kindle in the lead. But perhaps your source has finer detail or other advantages?

Thanks,

Ken

The key I think is "in its price range". The Kindle is not in the same price range. Kind of meaningless though considering it really doesn't have much competition in the $250 price range yet.

I'm more going by anecdotal evidence and activity here. I think both Kindles and EInk Nooks are outselling the Nook Color, but they're both $100 cheaper than the NC, too.

I've never had an e-ink device, so I can't compare the two, but I have spent many hours reading on my Nook Color and really enjoy it. I typically use the sepia background during the day, the night background at night, and the white background when in the sun. I haven't found a situation where I didn't enjoy reading on it. I have read for up to three hours in a day, and have not suffered from any headaches or eye strain.

I have a nookclassic and a nookcolor. I use the nookcolor exclusively and have since it's debut. I used the classic until I got the nookcolor. The size of the display and ease of use is so much higher on the nookcolor that I don't see myself returning to the classic ever. My wife uses it now and then.

Well I returned mine yesterday. I really wanted to like it. I did like it, but what I found is that when reading I kept adjusting the backlight over and over. Higher, lower, higher, lower. I loved the crispness of the text and the easy to turn pages touch.
I realize now that I just don't read well on lcds. I work on a computer all day and yet even here at work if I have to read a long document I print it out.
I don't want it to be that way, because as far as I am concerned the NC is the best value money wise.

It sounds like you are a prime candidate for an e-ink Classic Nook, Zarich. I encourage you to try one.

I had a Nook Classic and purchased the Nook Color to experience the difference. 10 minutes with the Color and the Classic was put on Craigs list. Love the Nook Color. I read everything on it, mags, newspapers, MS docs.

I rarely read on mine. My primary ereader is my Kindle. I bought the Color because it was a quality, inexpensive tablet. It's main use is to surf the net and play videos; and I love it.

I wouldn't give up either device.

I am curious - is your Color Nook rooted? I am considering buying a Color Nook, which I do not want to root. My main use would be for web surfing, viewing images, reading email, etc. So I would like to get a feel for how well it works for these things without rooting.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but almost everything on this forum concerning Color Nooks talks about rooted ones, so I thought this might be a good place to ask about its other abilities out of the box.
