a touchscreen is most likely inevitable in the next couple of iterations IMHO.

ereaders don't need touchscreens.

I'm wondering when they are going to release their SDK to the general population. That should make the Kindle more customizable at the very least.

I don't think that Amazon is going to have a yearly upgrade schedule like cell phones. I think that they'll upgrade the K3 when technological developments mean that it's worthwhile. I.e., if a new e-ink screen with 50% better contrast than the Pearl screen comes out, I think Amazon will build a new Kindle incorporating that.

I don't think we'll see a Sony-style touch screen until they become much cheaper: I think that Amazon believes it's important to keep something similar or lower than its current pricing to keep it well under the cost of an iPad.

I think most of the problems are software related. Better mp3 player, better pdf reader, better organizing of books, better browser etc.
And from what we learned from the Chinese guys, most of these things are easy.

Apart from that I would want a more "sturdy" exterior as in my case for no apparent reason there are some annoying creaking sounds when touching some parts of the back side. It seems it's a bit cheap.
