I agree with your second sentence, but don't think that's saying the same thing as your first sentence. We'll have to agree to disagree

Was wondering the same thing myself about postage. I'd rather hit my local Half Price Books and pay a few dollars for a book and no postage. Or, even better, hit my library book sale on $5 bag day

Your library has a $5 dollar bag day? I think I might be very jealous. Do you get to fill a bag with all the books you can stuff for $5??

Awesome... I'm so jealous!

I buy the vast majority of my books online, mostly because I don't really have much of a choice in the matter.

Generally, by bag day, all the good stuff (or at least what other people think is good stuff) is gone. That doesn't mean you can't find a bag full of things worth reading. Which doesn't help the shelving situation.

I just counted. We have 23 shelving units. 24, when we build the one we just got in a flatpack. A place to sit, a place to sleep, a place to park the computers, a place to stow our underwear ... and dozens and dozens of shelves. Thousands of books.

Then I think of the numbers I've seen for how few books people buy, and realize that I alone am using up a score of people's book quotas.

I know the feeling. I shudder to think of the issues of transporting my library when its time to move. I have the sneaking feeling that my friends will desert me in favor of lighter loads...especially with my HB habit.

We rented a couple of containers from P.O.D.S. (a wonderful system, by the way, and I'll never move any other way again) They told us not to worry about how much we put in there; the weight limits were just "advisory" and it was almost impossible to overload one. Well, when the first container -- the one with all the books in it -- got here, they nearly sprained their forklift taking it off the truck. Apparently you can overload the things, and putting in 70+ cartons of books (I stopped counting at 70, but there were a lot more) will do it.

And that's not counting the books we gave away, the books we sold, and the dozens of boxes of books in the storage.

I think I have too many books.

That's how I read it as well, and I still think that's a fallacy. It will work for some people, but not for others. If you prefer the classics, well, you're the lucky one as you'll not have to spend a lot of money on book! However, if you're the one that doesn't care too much about classics, well, heading over to gutenberg won't do you a lot of good...

I have choice, but I prefer online shopping as I hate going to town...

when we moved, 4 1/2 years ago, we had a stack of large boxes (we went with an official moving company that also supplied the boxes) and a stack of small boxes that was about half the size of the big ones. The small ones are for books But once the lounge is done and I have my bookshelves, it'll be time to fill them again (I've been mostly on a pbook-selling-stop the last 4 years, the only books I've got were either free (working at a publisher does have its advantages ) or second hand because I had to have them...)

Book shopping is pretty much the only "in person" shopping I enjoy - not that I don't enjoy shopping on the internet as well. My book shelves are overflowing, I have all my books stacked double and my entire second-floor hallway is full of stacks of books, as well as my living room. I should really looking into fixing that up!

There is no such thing as too many books! Just not enough time.

I love book shopping, too. I stop at every bookstore I happen across...and speaking of bookstores I need to make a detour past Borders today.
