Jerky is a little different in that they use smoke and some heat to speed up the dehydration, but dehydration is what preserves the beef in both cases.

I supplied a link to the page I was talking about, if you don't want to read it, then don't. As for the snarky hair stylist remark it was my way of saying don't believe something just because someone else tells you, I actually read a little before I commented about the non-rotting hamburger.

you're running this into the ground. I responded about raw hamburger left out before you provided any links. I've been putting food up in various methods for years. I don't need any lessons.

It depends on climate conditions. It's not going to happen if you live in a temperate rain forest. However if you had a dry spell with the requisite low humidity it just might. The thinness of the meat does help.

yeah, maybe. accidentally. Colorado had almost the perfect temperature and humidity for curing meat. we would always hang our venison in the garage for a week or two prior to butchering it depending on the temps. there is no way in hell I'll do that here, it goes to the butcher and hangs in the cold locker. I got really sick on some venison I had made in Germany. it was the first time I had encountered drying meat and reasonably high humidity. after that experience I am EXTREMELY careful!

I myself would prefer to play it safe and use cooked meat and a proper dehumidifier.

I wasn't talking about raw beef, McDonalds hamburgers are sold with cooked beef.

I apologize if I didn't make that clear. I assumed that everyone would have understood we were talking about cooked beef.

no, I had no clue that McDonalds burgers were made with cooked beef. my one experience in the fast food industry was a short stint at Wendy's and those started out as raw burgers

All I was trying to say was that McDonalds food is no better or worse than anyone else's and that they take a lot of heat for being huge. My comment about the COOKED hamburger not rotting was just an example of how everyone loves to hate McDonalds.

I give up, McDonalds is the evil empire and we should all write to our respective governments to have the top people at McDonalds executed and their outlets torched.

At last a sensible, well-balanced assessment

I hate McDonald's. I hate them because I can't eat their tasty fries anymore and they smell so delicious.

I am still peeved that they used to lie about the beef flavoring they cook the fries with, but I don't think they could get away with that these days.

I never heard they used to flavor their fries, I agree, I doubt they can get away with it now. McDonalds is highly scrutinized, about as bad as Clinton was

They do still use beef flavoring in their fries, but they only made it clear after they were sued over it. The problem being that for years they told people who asked that the fries were vegetarian (and Hindu) friendly when they weren't.
