Hey it may not apply to you but to deny that Macs don't have a huge following with hipsters and that it IS trendy to use Macs is just false. I didn't say they were the only ones who use them, just saying it IS trendy to use them.

My apologies, sometimes text doesn't convey emotion very well.

It isn't just Books though. Magazine, Music and Video subscriptions will be subject to this as well. Last.fm 'f*cked over' by Apple, says founder.

In my opinion I think that Tablets are basically media consuming machines. By Apple gouging the suppliers this way there is a possibility that the media will not be avialable to iThingie users. And then what are these iThingies used for? (iTableStraightener? iDoorWedge?)

OK... sometimes I mis-read something meant humourously... especially like about now as it's currently 3.55am here

so true. i remember one time i advised a fellow gamer at a gaming site about trading and that they should observe the trading forums first to get a feel for the item values (take note i meant this in a purely conversational way, not in a commanding manner), then they replied with a snarky "don't tell me what to do!" type of mail

People can still purchase Amazon books on the Amazon website and read via the kindle app.
Because with Apple's 30% surcharge and Agency Pricing (thanks to Apple), Amazon and B&N will probably lose money on every book they sell through the iPad.

I don't see how anyone can not think this is a big deal.

Remember, ANY criticism of Apple will be dismissed as coming from someone who is "anti-Apple." I freely admit to being anti-Apple but legitimate criticism is legitimate criticism regardless.

If I were B&N or Amazon, I would create an in-app purchasing doohickey that was difficult to use and had only the 3,000 top-selling books and involve an in-app convenience surcharge. But I'd still offer the full catalog easy to use on my in-device apps and on the web, at the normal or discounted prices.

Then I'd watch Apple have a fit and they'd probably dump me anyway. But it would make me feel good.
