Perhaps big chains do it differently but from what I understand bookshops get most books on sale or return. If it does not sell it goes back to the publisher. I think they get about 40% gross margins if they sell for the retail price.
So I can't imagine a bookshop having a very good close out sale as anything they don't sell they can just return and if its only a 20% discount they are still making a profit and you can probably get it cheaper from amazon. Mind you I've been wrong before... |

I am saddened by my borders (Camp Hill, Pa) closing. Both borders and b&n are within 10 minutes from my home but when it comes to books Borders has always been my 1st stop. Mainly because they have an actual horror section, my fave genre. The staff in this particular store has always been extremely helpful to me when I have need to ask anything of them. Once the store closes its doors I am in the quandry of going to B&N or driving 25 minutes to one of the two borders remaining open.
As for the earlier comment about the company using a 3rd party to liquidate, most companies do that. I was one of the unfortunate ones left in the dirt by circuit city and left before they started the liquidation |

Someone stopped in at the Borders I work at yesterday, asked me if our store was closing. I told him "no" and he was disappointed. He only stopped in looking to pick up going out of business sale items.

Careful, those "vultures" are going to be what gives your employer just enough cash to keep going.

It's some kind of weird spam. All of his posts are like that. And some fool is giving him karma (though apparently a low-karma fool).

I'm going with one of two possibilities: either he's using Babelfish to translate what may (or may not, heh) make perfect sense in his native language, or it's performance "art".
I'm tempted to send some of these posts to my old literature professor; he'd have great fun watching his poetry students try to grok these! "Ah, clearly Borders is an allusion to the 6th century dynasty of..." |

Oh, the best one is where the spammer (?) takes one of Worldwalker's posts and turns it into garbage.
