Hmm yeah. Still baffles me though. Okay I guess I'll give it a try. So, even when the light goes off, I shouldn't switch it off from the wall, right?

I'm sending you the bill if anything goes wrong!
LOL. Just kidding.

I agree that optimally one should unplug the charger as soon as possible, but if it's really low, you can charge it overnight occasionally without a problem.

I started using an IGo charger and it is working really well. I like it since I got a few other tips to use for other devices I own. I don't have a blackberry or other phone that used the same plug in as the Sony. That is the first I had seen of this type so I wanted something. I was worried about my reader falling off our desk when I plugged it into the computer since I have 3 boys around here, one that has just started to get on the move crawling so is particularly interested in any cords he can find.

As has been repeated many times in several threads... the x50s are all charged by micro-USB connectors... the key is USB, all USB power is 5V, it's a STANDARD of 5V... current can be anything from 500mA upwards, 500mA is the standard minimum as it is the current rating for PC USB ports (except early ones which could be lower)... I use a 2A one quite happily and use it overnight... the LiOn batteries stop taking charge when fully charged...

Also, how do you charge it. I've just noticed that the prs 650 is rated about 3.7V 940mA. However, the blackberry charger I intend to use is rated 5V 700mA.
It doesn't look right.

You know what, I think I'd be more comfortable using the official sony charger. Anyone with a link to purchase it in the UK?
I'll use my PC to charge it in the meantime. However, I've heard to many unpleasant stories about this.

You should NEVER switch PSU off at the wall (or let computer go to sleep/hibernate) as long as the reader is connected... it will discharge if you do so... see other threads relating to PSUs...

I think that they are referring to electrical outlets in the UK? Their wall outlets have an on/off switch similar to a wall switch for lights in the US.

I've got a 2 year old nephew in the house. That boy can be really mischievous!

I think I should have written, switch it off from the wall and disconnect the reader. I guess elcreative is telling me not to leave the reader connected when it's off at the wall. Thanks El, I won't!

Electrical outlets in the US don't have on/off switches?

I have a little problem. Say, i want to transfer files from my computer to the reader using the Sony software, but I dont want to use the sync option. Apparently, I can drag and drop but how do I ensure that the files go into the right places? That is, audio files in the audio folder, periodicals in the periodicals section, etc. Does the sony software do this automatically when you drag and drop?

Dunno, mine is the small one without the music. Try it. The reader wont break by trying this out it is meant to be used, Fortissimo, if this does not work, I'd do it with my Windows Explorer.

Ha you're right. I'm way too apprehensive. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm supposed to authorize my reader so I can read the free boooks I got from the Sony reader store.

hm, wait I think I remember it asked me to push a button when I was surfing the Sony Store through the Reader Library Software. After that I guess I was able to read my books. It says something like: Confirm here to enable you to read your books on this device. Just go online with your reader connected to your computer. I'll wait. If this does not do the trick alone you will need to set up an ADE account.
