I don't doubt that some minor upgrades will be applied to the K2 but they will be minor and pretty unimportant. I think the K1 had one update after the K2 was announced and that added synching to the device. I rememember hoping that the K1 would get collections whent he K2 got them but no such luck. That is when I bought my DXG. Well, the price drop was enough that I felt that I could afford the DXG and I really wanted collections. The new screen was a bonus. The reality is that once the newer model of a device comes out it is rare to see improvements for the older models. The programmers are working on improving the existing model and developing the next iteration. They don't have the time to take care of the past models. Thems the breaks. My K1 works great and was wonderful the year I had it after the K2 was released. My DXG works great even without the PDF stuff and page numbers. I bought what I bought and I am enjoying what I have. |

2 examples: Take the xbox 360, the new arcade models came out to support the 360's new OS (dashboard) and MS made changes but they didn't leave the original arcade users in the lurch they supplied them with what was needed to use the new dashboard. And ipod/iphone. I have a ipod touch 2G that started off with iOS2 it's now at iOS 4 - some features aren't their, but it's understandable (I've jailbroken the device to get the features - multitasking - the the battery life was horrific) the features that can be added without sacrificing performance have been. Eventually a new xbox OS and iOS will come out that won't support what I have, that's fine, I would have had my xbox for over 6 years by that point and my ipod for at least 3 or 4. By comparison I've had my k2 for less than a year. Just because something is, doesn't mean it ought to be. | |

And the fact that they are selling the Kindle DXG (unlike K2) should mean expecting updates isn't a sin like some ppl here make it seem to be.

It is not a sin but the amount of gripping is a bit out of whack, in my opinion. I have a DXG and would like the updates. I get that it is a unit that is a lower priority because it is not the huge seller. No, I have not seen sales numbers but I do know that I have never seen a DX of any form in the wild. I have seen my Mom and my brothers and a friends, that is it. The K3 is the big seller. Updating that is a high priority in order to maintain the market share in the much more lucrative 6 inch market. Does it suck? Yes. Am I surprised? No. Do I think posting the same gripes in numerous threads here changes a thing? No. Email Amazon, call customer service, write them a snail mail letter. By the way, this is the same advice I give the folks complaining about book prices, format issues, and the like. The smaller companies have reps here because they want to offer support and sell more units. Amazon, BN, Sony might have someone who reads these boards on occassion but I doubt that anything we say here will affect change. |

I think Amazon should update their older models unless there's a hardware reason t hey can't. In the case of the Kindle 2 and DX 2, those have 128MB rather than the 256MB the Kindle 3 has...so I'm guessing that's why they don't update anything but the 3. |
