That first photo is breath-taking
I love that photo.
The other two are extremely nice, but that first one -- WOW! (I think a bold-face is called for )Don |

Ah, fond memories. That bottom picture is Mt. Pilatus, isn't it? Wonderful views from the summit in the winter (although it's a seriously scary cable-car ride - I always keep my eyes shut on the last bit of it
). Generally a "heat haze" in the summer so you can't see very much at all.

![]() The last bit is when the cable-car goes almost vertically up, right? Definitely not recommended if you have no head for heights ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's the one
. I enjoy the first part of the ascent, with the small cable cars at "tree-top" height - that's beautiful; totally silent and all you can hear is the sound of the cow-bells in the pastures below. It's the last bit, where you transfer into the large cable-cars and you have a sheer drop of thousands of feet below you that I find rather nervewracking. Still, the view from the top makes it all worthwhile!I much prefer to go up on the cog-wheel train but, as you know, that stops running as soon as there's snow around. |

Alexander - your photos make me want to visit you...
...but I'm afraid we'd just sit around and read!

It is stunning. If you ever get the chance to visit Lucerne, don't hesitate. It's one of my favourite places in the whole world. We should all go and have a "Reader convention"
.

Great idea Harry!
But I think you'd have to be insane to get in one of those cable cars! Looks dangerous to me... How often do they inspect those things anyway? Btw, wasn't there a cable car like that in one of the James Bond movies with the metal jaw guy? |

There are cable cars just like that on a high percentage of the mountains in the Alps. They look scary, but I believe they are extremely safe in reality. The only time in recent years I recall there being an accident was a few years ago when some lunatic in the US Air Force flew a fighter jet through a valley far too low and hit - and broke - the cables. A car fell and 20 or so people were killed.
