My only real reason for wanting the Sony app is for LRF support. I still do lots of LRF
converts because it's simpler than ePUB. Anyone know if LRF is supported on Android?

Any ePUB, I use with iBooks. I'm not locked in to the Reader's directory structure for the library, and even then I drag/drop to iTunes after the DRM shuffle.

Agreed on the Sony software support. They seem to maintain a minimal staff in the Reader division (though the newest batch had a fairly significant UI change). However, the loss of the App was Apple's crappy licensing. The problem for Sony is they don't have Browser-based purchases, so they can't go the Amazon route. This part is totally Sony's gaffe; requiring the Reader Application for Mac/Windows for purchases is lame when your store is entirely web-based anyway!

You can't purchase content when you're not using your own computer. Silly.

How were you able to purchase books through the app? Whenever I try to do so I get an error. Also, my most recent purchase was available within the app, but there are massive gaps.

If I purchase a book through the app, then it will add it to my library. Thus I have a large gap between now and purchases from 2007.
I realized something interesting today. I have books that have never been converted from LRX to EPUB and still say "Available Soon" on my account's download page. The first book that is not available as an EPUB is the point at which I can't see any more of my library on the Android app. Seems like an interesting coincidence! Perhaps it chokes because it doesn't know what to do with that book?
I agree that this app is really lacking in features. However, it does synch with the 950 (which I have and do most of my reading on), and it would be nice to occasionally use this app's sync feature for night reading on my Android device.
I suspect everyone else has probably given up on this app and moved on to more capable ones...

When I open the Reader app, there is a button at the bottom called "Store". When I click that it opens up a browser window with the address http://ebookstore.sony.com. The webpage that it opens has a button called "My Account" where you can see your account information, wishlist, previous purchases, etc. When you find a book that you are interested in, the description page gives you the option to either "Add to Cart" or "Add to Wishlist".

I also have the Sony software installed on my computer since I have a Sony ereader. I wouldn't expect that to make a difference. Is your credit card up to date in your account info? Are you logged in to your account when you try to make a purchase? Maybe you have some setting in your browser preventing the transaction?

Sony at some point authorized my Android device to my Sony account because it shows up in my list of authorized devices. I don't recall doing anything special - maybe just entering in my account name and password when I initially installed the app?

What sort of massive gaps? Do you mean space between paragraphs? If so, that's how some ePub comes formatted.

I think luqmaninbmore means gaps in the list of purchases. The Sony app doesn't display all of your purchase history for some people, and how much you see appears to vary person-to-person. For instance, I have a gap in my purchases from 2007 to 2011! It's very annoying. I thought that I would be able to sync the Android app with my Sony 950. However, that's not possible if all of my recent purchases are missing. I don't need to sync with books that I read 4 years ago.

When ever I try to access the store, it opens up the browser and sends me to an error page on the sony store website.

I just tried it. It seems to work ok for me. I was able to add a book to my wishlist. Then I checked on my computer via the Sony software that I could see the new book on my wishlist. Maybe try clearing your browser cache? Or maybe try typing http://ebookstore.sony.com in the browser window directly rather than opening it through the app to see what happens?

I figured it out. I use dolphin, so the Sony site wasn't giving me the mobile intergace. It works properly with the default browser. I succesfully downloaded a freebie; many of my books are still missing in the app, though.

Any theories on why your books are missing? For me, I'm pretty sure that it's stuck on the book that has never been converted from LRF to EPUB and doesn't load anything else in the list after that.

I can get recent purchases now too. I just did another test. Previously I had purchased a book via the Andriod app. It added it to my library in the app. I just purchased a book through the Sony software on my computer to see what would happen. I reopened the Android app, it did a sync, and now the new book shows up too. It seems to be fixed for future purchases at least. It doesn't solve the issue of the missing previous purchases.

Presumably Sony intends to use this app, or an updated one, when it releases its two Android tablets later this fall. A preview of the devices is here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2388457,00.asp

I certainly hope they plan to update it if they want people to buy books from their store with their tablet. Right now it's very featureless and needs some of the bugs worked out.
