A suggestion, for those who sleep with their Kindle (applies to me too!): hang a small bag or satchel from the bedpost. Either put the Kindle in its bag before falling to sleep, or train yourself to feel for and move the Kindle, any time you wake up, before you make any other movements!!

My Kindle2 is damaged! =(

I have no idea when or how it happened.

There is a spot on the screen about the size and shape of a grain of rice that looks like the pixels are physically damaged. tbh, the way it looks reminds me of an Etch-A-Sketch.

I called Amazon immediately when I noticed it (which was two hours ago), got to a live CSR within 2 minutes, and she told me that I should have a replacement in hand on Tuesday (it's currently Saturday night) free of charge to me.

I asked her how many people call in for replacements, and she said it was her understanding that ~10% of Kindle owners call in (actually, she said ~90% don't) and that often it's due to user carelessness but they usually do replace them.

Interesting data but I'm not sure if I get it right. Do they replace one kindle from EVERY 10 or one misused kindle from every 10? The first number seems too big to be true and I can't imagine how they are tracking in the second case.

The damage reminds me of an Etch-A-Sketch in that it looks as if something physically scratched the pixels off from the inside, and that the section of damage is big enough it makes me wonder if I could see inside the unit were there enough light.
