EPub is easier to edit so that's why I prefer it. I have no idea how to edit a mobi book.
Also ePub is more powerful as far as what formatting is possible. I think we would get better formatted books if the publishers did not have to target the lowest common denominator, meaning mobi. By better fomatting, i mean formatting that is closer to the printed books. Amazon would do everybody a favor if they switched to ePub. Of course they could still use their proprietary DRM if they want to. (people seem to be conflating drm scheme with format, they are different and separate) |

I haven't really stayed up on nook use -- my sister has one, but doesn't do a lot of exploriing. She could really buy books from Kobo instead of B & N?
I guess I also wonder who owns .mobi. It seems to me that since epub is proprietary there'd be some extortionate fee due to Adobe. I'm not a writer, I'm a reader, and I don't own a single Adobe application except the free Adobe Digital Editions (which I have not yet moved from my old computer to my new computer -- wish me luck with *that*), and the Acrobat Reader. I still don't care what format I'm reading, as long as I can underline and/or annotate. |

Yes, she would use Adobe Digital Editions to transfer her book(s) to the NOOK. The first time she connects her device, she'll be prompted to authorize it using her Adobe ID. She can obtain one if she doesn't have one already. She'd then drag her book(s) to the NOOK icon in ADE. The books will be in a Digital Editions folder.

I don't really care one way or another. Even if Amazon stopped using the mobi format tomorrow, I'd need to become a vampire (now there's a thought!!!) before I could hope to run out of reading material on my Kindle.
Besides, one of the things I like so much about Amazon is their fantastic customer service. Google or whoever would have to go a long way to even match it. Loyalty works both ways for me and I'm kind of old fashioned about who I give my custom to. Last, but not least...with the wonderful Calibre, it's a moot point as to which format books are in. |

Well, it's not about knocking Amazon out of business so much as it is that Amazon "should" build EPUB support into Kindles.
And the funny thing is, there are still people who believe that. ![]() Despite all the evidence to the contrary, that they don't need to care. ... I admit that the thread being sparked by Google's ebook adventures is rather hilarious considering where Google is now. Quote:

Outside the US, libraries that have Overdrive do not serve Kindle format eBooks, just ePub and some PDF. So people who would use Overdrive would buy an ADE ePub capable Reader instead of a Kindle.

I should probably apologize for stirring up a dormant debate from 2010. As someone who who didn't even have ebooks and readers on my radar until last year, I just thought it was an interesting glimpse into how the industry has shaken out in the last 5+ years...
