So far loving the kindle. I find myself reading longer and later at night. Can't wait to get my m edge light. Anyways, it is great and so light. I still use my iPad quite a bit but mostly for stuff like going on the Internet ect. I have a purse that can carry both so they are always on me. I love the kindles battery life so far, it is amazing. My boyfriend has gadget envy now as I now have more gadgets than he does . He has been eyeing the galaxy tab by samsung as his next want.

I have an iPad and two Kindles (k2 & K3). I love them all. Reading is much more convenient on the Kindle, IMO. iPads are great for other things, but the 10 ounce weight and long battery life of the Kindle makes it perfect for reading. Plus Kindles do a great job when you're making notes or copying passages to upload to your computer.

I have an iPad, a Kindle and a Kobo! I use them for different things. The iPad I use for email and browsing web and video, the Kobo will read my ePubs and the Kindle is the better quality reading device - although I have to jump through a few hoops to get it to read my existing ebooks (converting to .mobi, emailing to kindle a/c).
I can even read books on my HTC Android phone (which has Kindle app plus Aldiko ePub reader). I was surprised that I'd get use out of both the Kindle and Kobo, but it has worked out great. And all for under $1000. My computer is now used for actually doing web design work. Everything else is a pleasant distraction. But all are getting written off as business expenses (I convert many client docs into PDF, ePub. And mobi) |

Yes, you are crazy. See, I have an Ipad, and I'm just days away from having a Kindle, and I am quite clearly, according to all the court orders and newspaper articles, crazier than an out-house rat, and so am I. You'll also note from every response above that the first thing a crazy person will tell you is that they're not crazy.
But, as J.G. Ballard said, "In a completely sane word, madness is the only freedom". So, enjoy. But, yes, my desire for a Kindle was based on a desire for simplicity, specialist use, ease of use, and non-distraction. I really need to read more, and browse less, in bed. [Note, no words above are meant to be taken seriously other than that last bit about my own desires. I do not think anyone above is insane. Except for maybe WT Sharpe. And HarryT, who's just a little too "sane", if you know what I mean] Cheers, Marc |

I don't think you are crazy at all- as a matter of fact I agree with most of the posters here...plus, variety is the spice of life. I haven't gotten an Ipad yet b/c I was waiting for the second generation, and have several laptops in various sizes. Wanted a pure reader. I have now owned my Kindle 3 for 24 hrs, and am pleased so far...

Seeing as the iPad is not much more than a glorified larger iPod Touch, it's not crazy at all to have a Kindle to use for reading ebooks.
Kindle has a far superior battery life, is easier on the eyes for reading for long periods, and in general just makes far more sense for reading books. Now, the fact that you have an iPad at all, since it's just a tablet pc that runs on the iPhone OS and can access iPhone apps... yes, you are crazy. the longer I've had my ipad, the more I think of it as just a toy that can't do any single thing all that well.
it's about as useful as a netbook, which is to say: not very useful. just my opinion. |

I have a Kindle DX and an iPad. On the iPad I have the Amazon Kindle application, so I can sync my books with it too, plus the best ePub reader I ever saw iBooks. By the way, my Kindle DX is better for reading, since it really fells like you are reading a paper and the fact that it's a lot more lighter than the heavy iPad

Since having my kindle, I have finished 5 books and am 65% of the way through a 6th book, so yeah I am reading much more on the kindle than I did on the Ipad. It is weird because I could read fine on it and didn't get the eye strain, but I just found myself surfing the web more checking mail, facebook ect and not reading. Now when I got to bed, I read for a good hour or two and thus my books are getting done. Plus my ipad battery is staying charged longer and the kindle battery is amazing. I've had it for about 3 weeks and have charged it only once when I got it.

The one thing I bought it for -- word processing -- it does pretty well, but otherwise I'd have to agree with your assessment. I'm really disappointed that there's no easy way to copy passages from books and transfer that copied text to a PC word processing program as there is with my Kindles. My Kindles automatically copy everything I underline to their My Clippings text files. Why can't the iPad do something like that?

I'm curious..specifically what app/context are you talking about here? Do you have an external keyboard? I find that it's damn near impossible to type on the touch screen for very long. something else kind of related to the rest of your post is , I think, the way everything in the ipad is very walled off - apps from apps - and apps from the larger non-apple ecosystem. I'm starting to feel this real aversion toward the ipad with all it's attention-destroying 'crapplets' and such... okay..better stop....haha |

That you find it difficult to type for extended periods on the virtual keyboard may be the difference in our typing styles. I have a very light touch, but I've noticed some folks hit keyboards with such strength I'm surprised they don't fly apart. |
