For me.......I think I made the right choice, with my first ereader.....I've always been a nite reader, the wife doesn't like any lights on once she goes down....and I'm a nite owl......... so I was relegated to using a small led type light while reading regular books.......personally, I think I was having issues with eye strain, when it got to the point that I just couldn't stop reading, due to beinng too entranced by the story.......could be I was just so tired..........but haven't noticed it quite as much with my NC.........and now I've be been staying up later...

While starting my search for an ereader.......I really was amazed when I first saw eink......was going to go with a kindle or nook classic...,but didn't like the fact that I'd still need an external light......I'm glad the people at the nook kiosk, sold me on the NC.......basically the perfect fit for me

I haven't even tried to read outside yet.......but considering how rare that's ever happened in the past......no big deal for me...

If you don't like the nook, and you don't feel very confident that you could root it successfully(especially if you don't have a micro SD, since I'm a fan of not spending money unless you absolutely have to) I'd say send it back and get something that will do what you want it to do, either multi-purpose tablet, or a different ebook reader (be it LCD or E-ink)

into what seems to be an age-old debate, because I just can't leave things alone without poking them....
e-ink screens, while wonderful with battery life, cool to look at, and full of shiny new technology, seem to me to be quite a bit more fragile, and are definately a bit irritating with the way they change. LCDs are, for me, faster, prettier, sturdier, and more versatile.
speaking only from personal experience, I spend anywhere from 10 to 16 hours daily in front of computer screens, and unless I'm uncommonly short on sleep(the 2-3 hours range), I can honestly say I've never experienced eye strain. granted, I do wear glasses, but I have been wearing them most of my life, and they're not likely to have been caused by glowing screens. That said, I do use the night setting on my text, which is supposed to reduce eye strain.
Of course, everyone is entitled to their own preference and opinion, and I accept that some people's eyes maybe even more sensitive to light than mine.
(apologies for the long post, I ramble in the wee hours of the morning)

In these posts they claim that LCD is bad for the eyes and causes more strain. Which device you prefer is just a matter of your taste or visual preference. I've seen people post here that eInk hurts their eyes when they read in low light, just as I've seen people post that LCD hurts their eyes and eINk is better for them.

Well-lit Conditions (outside or brightly-lit room)
- eInk is superior: The technology displays just like a paper book and does not have any glare
- LCD has too much glare and the backlight interferes with outside reading completely

Low-light Conditions (No light or lamp needed)
- LCD is superior: the backlight illuminates the entire screen evenly and no lamp or light is needed.
- eInk has no backlight and must have a lamp or attached LED light which does not evenly distribute the light on the page.

Other than the above, the fact that eInk has much better battery life is also a great boon to the device preference. All around, an eInk screen emulates the feeling of reading from a paper book far more than reading from an LCD. If reading from paper isn't important, you may be more inclined to read from LCD or even own both devices - like I do.

I know my post sounded a little harsh, but somewhere we have to agree to disagree and just talk about devices. My apologies if what I said was offensive.
Yeah, I know, you gave me a beating a dead horse anim in one thread for basically posting the above in abbreviated form though and it was in that one thread where I saw that one guy complaining about LCD/eye problems thing and you guys were going back and forth offtopic about it.

You forgot Pixel Qi, and it looks like the Notion Ink Adam isn't vaporware after all, so you might want to add Pixel Qi to the best of both worlds...

For those kepping tabs on this, I finally got my refund today. I only lost the money to ship it to B&N. Learned my lesson, safe to say I'm never buying form B&N again.

Hopefully. I really enjoy reading and I liked the NookColor enough to look the other way on the issues that bugged me for some time. But the Customer Service is the worst I have ever encountered in my whole entire life, a truly denigrating experience.
