This is what I like about it too. I like to read while I eat and I plan to use my reader for university related reading too - both occasions where having it stand would be useful - either because my hands are busy with food or I am taking notes from what I am reading.
Always. Ouch. I didn't notice this problem. I've never used the device so I don't know what to be careful for. So on their website I can choose between a red cover or a zipper case. I have something similar to this zipper case for my laptop. Do I really need my cover to be a book like cover or should this case be ok too for keeping it safe? |

![]() That's how I always hold my sony readers. 500, 505 and 650. I would say having cover is a good safety precaution. It protects screen. At the end of the day eInk is made of glass. There were many complains about broken screen over the year. Although for some people even titanium would not help ![]() I used to have a small bag for my readers in cover. 2 years ago I bought metal DVD case. That Sony cover has a bad review and there's a thread just below this one where a person is complaining about it. :/
I saw Oberon covers... They don't make them for 650 so people buy something else and then attach the reader by themselves. I'm not interested in that and they're really expensive too, so those were off right away. Argh. I think it might be best if I waited to get the reader and then saw how I'm gonna use it and see all those buttons and then try to see some covers IRL. I'm just worried I won't find any. ![]() |

Sony cover is my weak spot. I always suggest to try Sony original cover before trying anything else. I think it is very wise to wait for the reader to arrive and see what you might need and what is important for you. Don't forget about DVD tin box though ![]() Ehm., not really, sony reader will fit it only in sony cover, I think all others are thicker. You don't need it unless you get Sony cover or no cover at all. I had 505 without cover for 2 weeks. I used blu-tack to stick thin strips of porolon inside of the box and the reader was absolutely safe. |

Sure, here it is: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=100232
I tweeted Sony account to ask them about that zipper case - your discussion about the covers left me confused ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() Have you noticed that some of the complaints are about cover with light? It is different. Heavier, bigger, etc. P.S. I noticed I said Tuff-luv is better than nothing? Ha-ha. A week later the tuff-luv was discarded and paralon fitted into tin box ![]() ![]() Last edited by astra; 01-05-2011 at 03:41 PM. |

I really like the Sony lighted case for my PRS 350. However I haven't used any other cases.

Ivy, all of these covers look really nice. Really you just need to figure out what works best for you. I wouldn't automatically rule out the Sony branded covers. I think that's the point that Astra was making. I think that they are good quality, flexible and light-weight. It's the ones with the built-in light that add extra bulk but many people love that style too. Many of the people that have had problems with the plastic tabs take their Sony in and out of the cover which causes extra stress and fatigue. I have never had any issues with the Sony covers on my past ereaders because I installed the cover once and kept it like that. I decided on the Oberon cover for my new ereader because the Sony cover for the 950 only comes in black. No color options! I wanted something with more personality.

I have the Sony cover with a light because the "deal" when I purchased was the that cover included with the reader. The idea of the cover with a light did not thrill me, but I figured it would let me try a Sony cover for no additional cost and I could later buy something else if I didn't like it. But I have really liked the light despite the weight it adds! I don't use it often, but find it very nice for situations where the lighting is not really adequate, but I'm stuck for a while. Ideally I would have a cover that zips around and the device fastens in with the little tabs. Until I find one that does that for something I am willing to pay I'm happy with the cover I have. The device stays in the cover all the time and I like having it to help me hold onto that slick device since I always feel like it will slide out of my hands otherwise.

Thanks for the replies on the covers, guys.
I am sorry I have been missing, but I spent a week at my friend's place studying and did three exams while I was gone, so I really couldn't come here to chat. The good thing from all that work is... my waiting passed quickly and my boyfriend is coming (and bringing my reader) today!! I am afraid it's going to be coverless, as they didn't have the Sony cover in his Sony store and the zipper case they had wasn't pink (like I wanted), so he didn't buy anything. I'll work with my reader a bit and then see what to dress it into. :-) |

Just to add some feedback about my experience with the Sony covers. Originally I bought the 350 with the pink cover without light. After a while I realised two things, firstly the screen was too small, and secondly, I much prefer reading with the reader naked (as I always did with my old 300). Although the cover was nicely made, fitted well etc. I just didn't like the experience - I'm not one of those people who want their reader to be more like a "real book", I am happy with a Star Trek like screen.
My solution was to sell the 350 and cover and buy a 650 with the pink/mauve Sony zipped case. Having done a lot of reading over the past few weeks, I am very happy with this solution. The final touch was to fit a Decalgirl skin, see pictures below - hopefully as I'm not sure how to do this. If it doesn't work, you can see the album saved with my ID. I hope you enjoy your reader when it arrives and that you find the right cover for you. Last edited by Lyn2012; 01-15-2011 at 07:15 AM. Reason: Trying to add photos. |
