hmm. I think Belgium is closer to the US than Vietnam is, but it takes almost 3 weeks to deliver kindle? unreasonable. I only had to wait 10 days from the day I ordered, and I got it yesterday!

It doesn't take 3 weeks to ship to Belgium. I think the actual shipping takes 2 days, 3 at the most. When I ordered, the Kindle (international) was out of stock, so I had to wait 7 to 9 weeks before they could ship one to me.

There are probably seperate production runs for the International Kindle and the US Kindle because the International Kindle uses a different SIM card.

The Kindle is just getting started outside the US. With many international bookstores prefering EPub books to Mobi and having to negotiate with different in publishers in different countries, and having to deal with different countries law regarding the sale of books and e-books, the demand for Kindles outside the US is hard to judge. My guess is that Amazon has not run too many large production runs for the International Kindle because of those issues and has been caught off guard with the demand.

I would expect that Amazon will adjust its numbers and that the delays in shipping the International Kindle will diminish. But first Amazon has to make up for the existing gap.

Keep in mind that both the K1, K2, and K3 sold out at various points in time in the US. Moving into new markets is tricky and sometimes the numbers are off. Hapily for Amazon the numbers have been off on the positive side, ie too much demand for the current supply.

Normally Amazon does not charge your card until the order is shipped. So you should be able to cancel the order and not be charged.

My pending order is still cancel-able, and I can change the shipping option (from standard free), which I may do if it doesn't go out by the end of the week as my folks are going away on vacation later in the month.

forgive me if my question points out that I'm a chicken, but a SIM card is required only in 3G + WiFi version, right? Mine is WiFi only, so it needn't any SIM I suppose?

I have no idea about the WiFi technology and how it works. Is it possible that the US uses a different standard then the rest of the world? If so, there might be something technologically different with the WiFi models as well.

Realisticly speaking, all of the Kindles are made to work across the globe. If you got a US model it should work in Vietnam or Belguim. I just know that the US folks cannot order the International version and International folks cannot order the US version. The only work around is if you know someone in the US or another country.

So that means you ordered it around the end of Dec and now you got it ??? That really surprised me. I ordered my one on Nov 28th and still have to wait near the end of this month for it to be shipped, such a long long time. So far very few people ordering an international version got it. You are so lucky !!

well, I didn't want to care about all the wrap options and the security number on my visa card (because I had lost it! Argggg) so I had a friend of mine order my Kindle through a retailer in another city in Vietnam. They said it would take 1-2 weeks for them to get my Kindle from Amazon - 10 days in fact - then it was shipped on to my place in 1 day

easy and good service too. I paid $185 altogether (was it a good bargain?)

and I got a New year gift set from the retailer: 2 DVDs of free ebooks, comics and audio books, together with a User guide book in Vietnamese (in case the customer doesn't know English) Happy with that

I initially placed the order for my Kindle on Nov 28th last year and the expected arrival date was the 27th of January - to Prague, Czech Republic, as it was supposed to be a Christmas present, that was no good.

What I did in the end was I used one of those firms that ship things from the states to Europe, shipito was the one I used and so I cancelled my previous order, placed a new one, had them deliver it to shipito and had them send it on to me, the whole thing altogether took a week, which was a big step up from a month. I also got it for around 2/3 of the price that I would have paid here locally as the local markups are quite high.

Problem is that they are changing the excise duties soon in this country and the tax-free limit will be 20 euros from 200 that it was previously, so it will mean that the only reason to buy from abroad will be because you really can't buy it any where else.

I'm from Germany. My girlfriend ordered a Kindle WiFi on Dec 9th as a Christmas present. Right now it says "Shipping Estimate: January 4, 2011 - January 19, 2011" and "Delivery Estimate: January 6, 2011 - January 21, 2011". I also had in mind to cancel the order and use a forwarding service but then I saw on the Amazon Kindle page that it is "Expected to ship in 8 to 9 days" for the US market. That means that they really have none in stock and it wouldn't be any faster. Gosh, waiting is so hard.

I get the distint impression that the K3 has surpassed Amazons sales expectations. The K2 had a long wait list when it first came out but after that it was fine. The K3 seems to be wait listed pretty regularly.

I wonder if a part of that is having the WiFi and WiFi/3G models? Instead of two regular production runs (K2 and K2I) they are having to manage 6 production runs (K3 WIFi, K3 WiFi/3g White, K3 WiFi/3G Graphite and the same for K3I)
